While some stores are prematurely beginning to roll out the back to school supplies, it’s still summer, folks. And as such, I assume you’re looking to get the most out of this season, no?
We’ve already been over several ways to enjoy the warmth, including outdoor concerts, activities, and art fairs. A Michigan summer would be incomplete, however, without a trip to a county fair (or two)!
The Monroe County Fair is known as “Michigan’s finest fair,” but there’s only one way to justify that statement—by finding out for yourself! If the promise of elephant ears isn’t enough (let’s face it, you had me at cinnamon sugar-covered dough), country singer Hunter Hayes will kick off the festival on Sunday, July 28 with a performance at 8 p.m.
In its entirety, the Monroe County Fair will run from Sunday, July 28 through Saturday, August 3. Fair events include a Demolition Derby, Monster Truck Show, Tractor Pull and performance by The Charlie Daniels Band.

All of the fun will be held at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, 3775 S. Custer Rd., Monroe Charter Township.
The 67th Annual Wayne County Fair will be held Monday, August 5 through Saturday, August 10 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, 10871 Quirk Rd., Belleville.
The fair will feature several livestock shows, craft and vendor booths, beverage tents, a fruit pie bake-off, and more. Several days have a theme, too: Tuesday is Senior Citizens Day, Wednesday is Ladies Day, Thursday is Kids Day and Friday is Veterans Day.
The 2013 Annual Lapeer Day Festival is completely free, and runs from Friday, August 16 through Sunday, August 18. Located on Nepessing St. in downtown Lapeer, the weekend-long festival will include carnival games, arts and crafts, magic shows, a dunk tank, beer tent and more.
Even the entertainment is free, including acts like Steel Magnolia, TJ Craven, Salter and more. Just a heads up for those of you with a coulrophobia… you might want to steer clear of Wowie the Clown.
Surely you can squeeze in a trip to at least one of these county fairs. Get the most out of your summer while you can!
