We consume media in a variety of ways; through our phones, laptops, smart TVs, heck even refrigerators can now screen the latest blockbuster. These are all convenient in their own ways, but what about experiencing movies the way they were meant to be seen: on the big screen. While the darkness of a movie theater can be comforting, a film under Michigan summer night sky can be even more illuminating. So keep your smart devices at home and experience a movie under the stars at these upcoming events.

Ford-Wyoming Drive-In

Drive-In theaters are (sadly) few and far between in 2019, but you can get your nostalgic fix at the Dearborn Ford-Wyoming Drive-In. Featuring double-features of the latest box office sensations, you can knock out two movies off your watchlist for the price of one. Added bonus: dogs are welcome, just bring a leash if you want to take them outside of the vehicle.

USA Hockey Arena

From transporting food and goods to having enough room for pets and family, owning the right SUV is essential for pet owners. See the available features that make the Chevy Tahoe a pet lover's dream.

You might not think a hockey arena is a good place to catch a flick, but USA Hockey Arena is here to prove you wrong when their Drive-In Movie Series begins on June 7. This and the aforementioned Ford-Wyoming Drive-In are the only opportunities to scratch that nostalgic itch of experiencing a drive-in movie. The latest blockbusters will be onscreen, along with some family-fun events during the weekend screenings.

Ann Arbor Summer Festival (Starting 6/16)

There are countless things to do and check out every year at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, but this year you’re going to want to make room in your schedule for films at Rackham Stage. Starting on Sunday, June 16 a wide variety of films ranging from Frozen, Won’t You Be My Neighbor, Eighth Grade, Black Panther, Field of Dreams, Bohemian Rhapsody and many more will be shown under the night sky. For the full list of films, including the Cinetopia Film Festival Selection event, be sure to check out the official Ann Arbor Summer Festival website.

Novi Family Fun Fridays (Starting 6/21)

The name says it all as Furest Park will host Family Fun Fridays featuring great family movies and events. Don’t miss out on one of the three family movie nights featuring Mary Poppins Returns on June 21, Incredibles 2 on July 12, and Ralph Breaks the Internet on August 16. Each night will feature a different activity such as a pop-up waterpark, a game night, or a celebration of Novi’s 50th Anniversary.

Rochester Movies in the Moonlight (Starting 7/13)

Featuring both modern and classic family flicks, Rochester’s Movies in the Moonlight series returns on Saturday, July 13 with a showing of The Greatest Showman. The following three weeks will feature The Grinch, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Incredibles 2. Admission is free for all families with festivities beginning at 8:30 p.m. every week featuring family-fun entertainment until showtime.
