Get ready for a roaring good time at the wildest concert series you will ever encounter! It is time for the return of Wild Zoo Nights, the annual summer concert series at The Detroit Zoo.

This fun and talent filled event has been happening at the Detroit Zoo for the past 15 years. The idea came about simply because the zoo wanted to offer a way for families to enjoy the grounds during the evening. Nighttime at the zoo is a much different experience. In the absence of the hot summer sun, the animals are much more active and playful.  Walking around the zoo at night has a completely different feeling than a daytime stroll. There are less crowds and it is a much more peaceful and intimate encounter. You really get to see the animals come to life. To let people in on this great experience, so began Wild Zoo Nights!

Being that the Zoo remains open during the concerts, guests have the opportunity to walk around the grounds, view the animals and even take a spin on the new animal themed carousel. The animals are offered enrichment by their keepers at 6pm and 7pm. Enrichment is a process where changes are made or added to an animal’s environment (sounds, scents, etc.) therefore changing up their behavior and creating something new, stimulating and entertaining for them. This often translates into entertainment for us as well, since so many of the animals are just so darn funny and cute during the enrichment process!

Zoo visitors from the day are encouraged to stay and enjoy the Wednesday night shows as well with no additional charge. And those that just want to come later for the music can purchase tickets at a reduced price of $5 after 5 pm on Wednesdays in July and August. Detroit Zoological Society Members are offered admittance to the concerts free of charge. There is also a wide variety of food, snacks, beer, wine and soft drinks available for purchase during the shows.
