Sinbad, Jim Gaffigan, and More Bring the Laughs to the D This Summer

We all have our favorite brands of comedy; from brash, crude humor, to smart, story-driven laughs, there’s something out there for everybody. That diverse humor is on full display in Metro Detroit as there are plenty of great comedians hitting the stage in the coming months. Here are five upcoming comedy shows that are guaranteed to make you laugh, no matter what kind of humor you’re into.

Festival of Laughs (5/11)

This year’s Festival of Laughs at the Fox Theatre brings to town the Funny As Ish Comedy Tour on Saturday, May 11. The stacked lineup includes Sommore, George Wallace, DC Young Fly, Lavell Crawford, Mark Curry, and Guy Torry. The lineup is subject to change, but you can expect a night full of unbridled humor and hysterical storytelling no matter who’s up there.

Patton Oswalt (5/18)

Adventure starts with a vehicle that’s up for anything. Trailblazer combines comfort you want, the versatility you need, and the technology to make every moment count.

The popular comedian known for his geek-infused humor and countless roles in television and movies will hit the stage at The Fillmore on Saturday, May 18. Oswalt just received an Emmy nomination for his Netflix stand-up special, “Annihilation” and is currently on a global tour.

Detroit Women of Comedy Festival (5/30-6/2)

Detroit’s first and only festival celebrating women comedians will return on Thursday, May 30. The four-day festival will feature the funniest women in Metro Detroit and will be raising money for organizations such as Girls Rock Detroit and the Detroit Creativity Project. Sinbad (5/30)

Considered one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all-time, Sinbad returns to Detroit on Thursday, May 30. The show at the MGM Grand will have the comedian reminiscing about his three decade long comedic career. His Detroit performance will be the last of his current Comedy of Sinbad nationwide tour.

Jim Gaffigan (6/7)

Forgotten Harvest’s 27th Annual Comedy Night on Friday, June 7 will be headlined by one of the most popular comedians working today, Jim Gaffigan. The four-time Grammy nominated comedian is known for his unique brand of humor which usually revolves around fatherhood and food. The show is hosted by Metro Detroit’s only food rescue organization, Forgotten Harvest, and offers a chance for the organization and its supporters to celebrate their achievements in the community.

The Lonely Island (6/26)

Not your typical comedy show, the Emmy award-winning trio is going on their first ever multi-city tour with a stop at the Fox Theatre on Wednesday, June 26. Known for their simultaneously catchy and incredibly raunchy songs, The Lonely Island grew in popularity from their “SNL” skits and Grammy-nominated albums. Tim Meadows will also perform.
