Even though things have gotten pretty spooky around Metro Detroit with the Halloween holiday fast approaching, it’ll soon get jollier with other holidays. Holiday musicals, or even musicals in general, are a great way to celebrate the holiday with the family or a significant other. The Detroit theatre community is welcoming some great touring shows over the next few months, and here are a few we think you should mark on your calendar.

Once on This Island (10/31-11/3)

The 2018 Tony Award winner for Best Revival of a Musical, Once on This Island, comes to Detroit starting on Thursday, October 31 for one weekend only. The inspirational story follows the story of an early 20th century Haiti village and their struggle with discrimination, wealth, and class. The immersive musical will run six times through Sunday, November 3.

A Christmas Carol (11/8-12/22)

A classic in terms of the source material and an annual tradition at the Meadow Brook Theatre, A Christmas Carol returns on Friday, November 8. This is the 38th year of the theater showcasing the classic holiday tale of a mean-spirited miser and the ghosts that haunt him. Hello, Dolly! (11/19-12/1)

A revival of the beloved classic, Hello, Dolly! comes to the Fisher Theatre beginning on Tuesday, November 19. This current revival won four Tony Awards and has been hailed by many critics as an energetic take on the classic story. The musical won’t have a show on Thanksgiving, November 28 and will run until Sunday, December 1.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (11/20-11/23)

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas is beloved by families everywhere, and now its touring musical is garnering rave reviews. The record-breaking Broadway show begins a limited run at the Fox Theatre on Wednesday, November 20. You and your family can tap your toes along with hits such as “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas” with shows running until Saturday, November 23.

The Nutcracker (11/30-12/1)

BalletMet brings its beloved production of The Nutcracker to the Michigan Opera House starting on Saturday, November 30. The performance features live accompaniment from the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra along with children’s activities before the performance and during intermission. Other holiday offerings include Too Hot to Handel on Saturday, December 14 and A Winter Fantasy on Sunday, December 15.
