We’ve all been in that mood where we just need a laugh; whether that means watching your favorite sitcom or comedian perform. While finding the newest comedy special on a streaming service can certainly make for an entertaining night, there is something about a live show and the atmosphere and energy of the crowd that is irreplaceable. Lucky for you, Metro Detroit is hosting a number of great stand-up comedians that will give you plenty of laughs. Here are some upcoming comedy shows that are sure to tickle your funny bone.
John Heffron at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle (11/8)
Ever since winning the second season of the hit reality competition show “Last Comic Standing,” John Heffron has been one of the most popular stand-up comedians in the game with appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Chelsea Lately,” “The Late Late Show with Craig Kilburn,” and two Comedy Central specials. The former Eastern Michigan University student tours the country with his hysterical stand-up and will be joined by Ben Hamilton with Josh Cocks serving as the night’s MC. Derick Lengwenus at Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase (11/15)
A regular on the comedy scene for 18 years, Derick Lengwenus knows a thing or two about stand-up comedy. He has performed at HBO’s Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, as well as numerous festivals in Montreal, San Francisco, and at the International Eat My Shorts Festival. The Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase will also feature Rob Little and Bill Hildebrandt over the following two weeks.
Craig Ferguson at MGM Grand (11/24)
The popular former host of “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” will hit the stage at the MGM Grand on Saturday, November 24. The Emmy award-winning comedian is known for his dry sense of humor and deadpan delivery. Ferguson recently announced his third book, “Riding the Elephant: A Memoir of Altercations, Humiliations, Hallucinations, and Observations,” which is due to come out next May.
Trailer Park Boys at The Masonic Temple (12/1)
The Trailer Park Boys will return to Detroit on Saturday, December 1 with a hilarious new show. The trio is on their “A Sunnyvale Christmas” tour which will include the characters Ricky, Julian, Bubbles and Randy from the popular mockumentary series.
All-Star Comedy Festival at the Fox Theatre (12/8)
Six comedians, one night. That’s what you’ll get at this year’s All-Star Comedy Festival at the Fox Theatre on Saturday, December 1. The line-up includes a myriad of national talent including Lavell Crawford, Earthquake, Nephew Tommy, John Witherspoon, Rodman, and Dominque.
