The Silverado is the truck that works as hard as you do.
The 2016 Hamtramck Music Festival kicks off its third annual installment today at the Fowling Warehouse. Music begins at 8 p.m. and the city-wide event continues through this Sunday, March 6.
This is a party you are not going to want to miss. The city of Hamtramck is two square miles, full of bars, clubs and other venues, making it the perfect, pedestrian-friendly location for an event such as this. The music festival features 25 venues and more than 200 acts, most of which are local!
“There has always been a great music/festival culture in the metro area, especially in Hamtramck,” Eugene Strobe, co-organizer of the Hamtramck Music Festival, said. “A few years back, the main festival in town changed its format and spread across town and lost the cool ‘vibe’ that it had when it was in Hamtramck. So in response, the musicians, fans, and community of Hamtramck created a new fest and embraced bringing a large music festival back within the city boundaries. The beauty of Hamtramck is that it’s a very walkable town and it’s perfect for club hopping.”
Among the HMF venues are some of Hamtramck’s most loved hot spots, such as Small’s Bar, Paycheck’s Lounge, Whiskey in the Jar, Rock City Eatery and much more. Places other than bars and lounges are getting in on the action, too. Lo & Behold Records & Books and the Hamtramck Public Library are other options to enjoy music at.
About 6,000 people total are expected to attend the event. The lengthy list of musical guests spans many genres. Just to name a few, rock, indie, punk, rhythm & blues, funk and even Bengali or Klezmer music are among the musical stylings you may hear this weekend. As if this event was not already awesome enough, proceeds go to charity.
“What makes this event special is that it’s run by musicians, fans, and the surrounding community, with a focus on celebrating our arts-culture as well as raising money for our community partner, Ben’s Encore, which provides music scholarships and opportunities for youth pursuing music education,” Strobe said.
Music isn’t the only thing happening here. There will be plenty of food not only from the venues, but from various food trucks as well. The Mac Shack, Hero or Villain, Delectabowl and a few others are prepared to serve delicious food to festivalgoers. There will also be a “Hangover Brunch” at P.L.A.V. Post #10 on Sunday morning.
Wristbands for the events can be purchased onsite at any of the participating venues. For a mere $10, a wristband grants you access to all of the HMF events.
