Picture this: you’re out on a huge lake in a boat that’s gently cruising along the waters. The sun is shining. You’re with your friends, having a good time. There’s nothing quite like the calm of a serene day on a boat.

Starting this weekend, you will have the opportunity to feast your eyes on hundreds of top-of-the-line boats, yachts and more. That’s because this weekend marks the beginning of the 60th Detroit Boat Show at Cobo Center in Detroit. Running from February 17-25, the 2018 Detroit Boat Show plans to offer a huge selection of boats and other watercrafts for aficionados and would-be boat owners. But, that’s not all you’ll find at the show.

Twiggy the Water-Skiing Squirrel

The show-stealer of the whole event is Twiggy the Water-Skiing Squirrel. How they managed to train this squirrel to water ski is beyond me, but it’s quite a treat to watch! Twiggy has been performing in front of people since 1979, garnering millions of fans. You can find this water-skiing squirrel at the Detroit Boat Show at scheduled times throughout the show.

Wake Rail Jam

The Wake Rail Jam is a spectacular showcase of wakeboarding using two pools holding more than 50,000 gallons of water. Using a high-speed, gas-powered winch, performers are propelled from one pool to the other, performing all kinds of tricks for the audience. Surfs up!

Enough room for your pets. Enough room for everything they need. See why Suburban is perfect for you… and your four-legged friends.

Kids Zone – Weekends Only

The Kids Zone is the perfect place to take the kids for fun activities. Kids will have the chance to participate in face painting, spin the Wheel of Treasure to win prizes, pain their own t-shirt and, best of all, meet a real live mermaid! One of the coolest things about the Kids Zone are the Water Rollerz. Think of them as inflatable hamster wheels for kids. Run on the water and have a blast!

Free Boaters Safety Course/Boating Simulator

Yamaha will be offering a free, six-hour boaters safety course on Saturday, Feb. 24. This is your chance to learn the rules of the water and other important safety tips. Participants in the course will receive a free pass to the rest of the Detroit Boat Show, but space is limited for this course so pre-registration is recommended.

If you can’t attend the boaters safety course, the USPS booth has a functioning simulator from America’s Boating Club for you to test your skills. All ages are welcome to try to pilot this virtual boat. And don’t worry, crashing the boat will not affect your insurance!

60th Anniversary Giveaways

Last, but not least, the Detroit Boat Show is your chance to win free stuff and who doesn’t love free stuff!? Yeti products will be given away to one lucky person at the end of every day of the show. A Wolverine pontoon trailer will be given away to one lucky person. Just sign up at the Dr. Trailer booth. And, finally, the grand prize giveaway is a pair of diamond solitaire earrings, the winner of which will be selected after the show is over.

So, if you’re looking for something to take your mind off of the winter weather, why not head to the Detroit Boat Show for some fun and maybe a little daydreaming about a day on the lake this summer?
