If you’re like me, you’ve probably thought about taking music lessons at some point. I myself used to play flute (terribly) in grade school, but have often thought about learning guitar or drums. That’s why I decided to look into some of the establishments that offer private lessons to a talentless schmuck like me. Turns out, there are plenty of great places to start learning a new instrument in metro Detroit. Located in Royal Oak, The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music brings in students from across the metro Detroit area. Lessons for instruments like bass, drums, guitar, piano, brass and woodwinds are all available for all ages and musical levels. They even have lessons in studio engineering and songwriting! With locations in Berkley and Waterford, McCourt’s Musical Instruments isn’t just a storefront for you to rent instruments from; they also provide private music lessons. The great thing about McCourt’s is their awesome deal for new students. New students can enjoy their first four music lessons at a discounted rate of $45. With lessons for piano, voice, guitar, drums, violin/viola, cello woodwinds and brass, Expressions Music Academy in Novi, Plymouth and Troy is a fantastic option for metro Detroiters looking to take music lessons. One unique thing about their program is the “Level Up” system, which gives students an incentive to keep progressing by completing “levels” and earning small rewards along the way.
