The Detroit Zoo is one of the more wild places to visit in the Metro Detroit area. With all of its great exhibits from the new Polk Penguin Conservation Center, to the Australian Outback Adventure, and the Arctic Ring of Life, there’s tons to do on a typical day. The zoo offers some great events for both families and adults to enjoy throughout the year, and with fall right around the corner, here are four events you should attend at the Detroit Zoo in September and October.
Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo
The annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo will take place on Sunday, September 11. The event includes races for all different skilled runners with 5K and 10K runs, the Too Wild! 5K and 10K combo, and a non-competitive 1.5-mile Fun Walk. The courses will take runners through the scenic streets of Huntington Woods that surround the Zoo, while those participating in the Fun Walk will walk past the animal habitats in the Zoo. Meet Your Best Friend
The semi-annual Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo will take place on Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17. Every year this event is one of the country’s largest off-site pet adoption events. More than 23,000 dogs, cats, and rabbits have been adopted during Meet Your Best Friend since 1993. The event is in partnership with the Michigan Humane Society and will take place in the parking lot underneath the Zoo’s water tower.
Zoo Brew
The September edition of Zoo Brew will take place on Friday, September 23 at 6 p.m. The event will have craft beers from Michigan craft breweries, live music, and even the chance for exclusive access to the Zoo’s habitats and zookeeper talks. Tickets start at $45 and can be purchased here.
Zoo Boo
The annual Zoo Boo takes guests through a decorated trick-or-treat trail through parts of the Zoo. This year’s festivities will take place over the first three weekends in October and will feature family friendly entertainment, a Haunted Reptile House, a Creepy Craft tent, and other activities for children to enjoy. Tickets go on sale for the general public on September 15.
