It’s no secret that jewelry is a popular gift to give your significant other for special occasions. Shopping local, small businesses is a great way to find some truly remarkable gifts and might even spark your next gift idea. So, why not check out some of the jewelry made by local artists right here in metro Detroit?

Detroit Rocks Jewelry

What’s special about Detroit Rocks Jewelry’s name is that it works on two levels. See, artist Debbie Kline uses fordite, which is layered paint from old automotive factories that has been collected, painted and polished. That fordite is used to craft unique jewelry that is literally made from a piece of Detroit automotive manufacturing. So, this Detroit “rock” rocks. Pretty cool, huh?

Tooth and Nail Oddities

Like Detroit Rocks Jewelry, Tooth and Nail Oddities takes a thing or two from its name (or is it the other way around?). Artist Stacy Dumas takes the bones from animals procured from local Michigan hunters or ones she finds herself in the woods, and fashions them into necklaces and more. While an animal bone may not shine like a diamond (though, Dumas does lacquer her pieces to give the finished product a nice shine), where else are you going to find locally-made jewelry like this? You can see Dumas work on Instagram.

Kitty Deluxe

Located in St. Clair Shores, Kitty Deluxe owner Cat Massof opened the pink storefront in 2004 and has continued to string and sling beaded goodies ever since. But, Massof’s career in jewelry and fashion didn’t start there. No, Massof has had an interest in the fashion industry since she was a child and followed that passion to Wayne State University, majoring in fashion design and merchandising. Kitty Deluxe is filled top-to-bottom with unique necklaces, beads, bracelets and more. Stop in and browse their wares or even plan your child’s birthday party with them.

Allison’s Art Expressions

We’re already familiar with Allison Sims’ work (and so are you, dear reader) and while Sims’ has a multitude of projects going at any given time, like 10|7 Apparel, one of her projects is Allison’s Art Expressions. This online store was a means for Sims to sell her artistic projects to willing buyers. Of course, Sims has necklaces, bracelets and more jewelry on offer, but if you’re looking for something truly unique, don’t hesitate to give Sims a buzz for a special request.
