Now that the weather has finally started to cool off, things are beginning to feel like autumn (or “fall,” if you prefer). It’s time to carve pumpkins, rake up some leaves and then immediately jump into them. More importantly, it’s time for us “beervangelists” to switch our palette over from the citrusy ales of summer to the darker, spicier ales of autumn. In Michigan, there’s never a shortage of great craft beer to choose from for any season, so here are four fall beers from Michigan-based brewers.

Best Brown Ale from Bell’s Brewery

Combining small dashes of caramel and cocoa to this brown ale has proved successful for Bell’s in Comstock as its Best Brown Ale has made regular appearances in shelves and taps during the fall season for a while. This ale doesn’t feel too dark or heavy and pairs well with slow cooked foods, like a good stew or pot roast. At 5.8% ABV, Best Brown Ale packs a flavorful punch. Not all of us can high-tail it to Comstock, but we’re in luck because Craft Breww City in Farmington Hills, The Emory in Ferndale and Shelby Pub & Grill in Shelby Township has BBA on tap.

Pumpkin Spice Latte from Atwater Brewery

All right. We had to include Pumpkin Spice Latte from Atwater on here, because, come on, #PSL. Pumpkin Spice Latte brings together a Munich dark malt, honey malt and a melanoidin malt for a mix of sweet walnut and honey flavor. Of course, no drink bearing the PSL name would be complete without pumpkin spice and coffee extracts, which Atwater has locally designed.

Jaw-Jacker from Arcadia Brewing Company

This is a spiced amber-wheat ale that uses a combination of cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg along with malted barley and some wheat for mouthfeel to make a beer that is a bright orange-amber color and has just enough fall spice to put you in the mood for the season. Of course, not all restaurants and breweries will have Jaw-Jacker, but we do know that Shelby Pub & Grill in Shelby Township has it on tap.

When you have the tools to do it yourself, nothing can stop you from turning your vision into reality. Trailblazer offers advanced storage options for a small SUV that is versatile, powerful, and ready to get the job done

Roaka Cadabra from Roak Brewing Co.

Hogwarts isn’t the only place in the world to get a beer that is, let’s say, magically inclined. This Belgian-style brown ale mixes spices, malts and Michigan-grown apples to create a beer that is spicy, crisp and full of flavor. Whether you’re a witch, wizard or muggle, Roaka Cadabra will put a spell on your taste buds.
