Pumpkins, beer and entertainment — what more could you ask for? The official first day of fall isn’t until September 22, but we’re ready to hit up our favorite cider mills, carve a pumpkin and bake apple pies. Apparently, so are many others as some fall festivals are already here. Here are a few fall festivals to check out this season in metro Detroit.
Plymouth Fall Festival (Sep. 9-11)
Starting today, September 9, at noon and running until Sunday, September 11, at 6:00 p.m., the Plymouth Fall Festival is a chance for Plymouth community members and members of surrounding communities to kick-off the fall season with music, crafts, cars, food and more. The live entertainment lineup includes a performance from The Dale Hicks Band, a pet show with awards given out and a magic show.
Romulus Pumpkin Festival and Parade of Lights (Sep. 16-18)
Established by the Pumpkin Festival Committee, the Romulus Pumpkin Festival and Parade of Lights has been going on every year since 1997. Always taking place on the third Friday of September, the Romulus Pumpkin Festival kicks off with the Parade of Lights on Friday night. Throughout the weekend, you can enjoy food, music and crafts or take part in one of the competitions, like pumpkin pie eating or the classic car and tractor shows.
South Lyon Pumpkinfest (Sep. 23-25)
Pumpkinfest in South Lyon has been a sight to behold for 32 years. With plenty of contests, activities and even a biergarten, the South Lyon Pumpkinfest has plenty to do for people of all ages. Of course, The Great Pumpkin Contest is one that attracts the most eyeballs as people marvel at pumpkins bigger than they ever thought possible. Those attending the biergarten will need a valid photo ID and purchasing drinks must be done with tickets, which will be on sale outside of the beer tent.
Detroit Fall Beer Festival (Oct. 21-22)
October + beer = a perfect combination. This October, spend some time at Eastern Market in Detroit for the Detroit Fall Beer Festival, hosted by the Michigan Brewers Guild. More than 700 craft beers will be available from more than 80 Michigan breweries. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the gate (assuming they haven’t sold out). One ticket gets you 15 sampling tokens and each three-ounce sample of beer costs one token. Additional tokens will be available for purchase for 50 cents each.
