In Michigan, many of us turn to comfort food when the temperature drops, but with October’s average temperature trending well above normal, the warm weather might just get you in the mood for some of metro Detroit’s best southern-style comfort food.

Dottie’s

Located inside the bar area of Cafe Muse in Royal Oak, Dottie’s is a casual, southern-style bistro serving up lots of great comfort/soul food like buttermilk chicken, homemade mac & cheese and biscuits and gravy. Dinner at Dottie’s is available Tuesday-Thursday, 5-9 p.m., and Friday-Saturday, 5-10 p.m. Happy hour is also available Tuesday-Friday from 4-7 p.m.

Southern Belle’s Bistro

With plenty of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Southern Belle’s Bistro in Ferndale will have you wondering just how much of this southern-style goodness you can put away in one sitting. Breakfast will treat you to several different egg specialties, fish & grits, omlettes and more. Lunch specials like the catfish, porkchop and BBQ wings come with two sides and Southern Belle’s signature corn muffin. The same is true for dinner, but portions are kicked up a notch or two, both in quantity and selection.

Southern Fire Bistro & Lounge

Channeling a club/lounge vibe, Southern Fire is a popular stop in Detroit for southern-style comfort food. With menu items like smothered steak, short ribs, cod fillet, baby back ribs and sides like, fried corn, baked beans, macaroni and cheese and sweet potatoes, Southern Fire turns up the heat on southern-style comfort food. Stop in before 10 p.m. on Tuesdays for $2 shots and wings.
