Ah, Independence Day. A day to remember that one time Will Smith saved everyone from an alien invasion and we all ate a bunch of hot dogs to celebrate…
This year, Independence Day lands on a Wednesday, which is kind of a bummer for those of us typically grinding away at work during the week. Due to this snafoo in extended weekend plans, many places are holding their annual 4th of July fireworks displays the weekend prior to the big day.
Find out for yourself where you can catch a glimpse of these dazzling, patriotic displays in Metro Detroit!
Kick off the weekend in Addison Oaks County Park with face painting, patriotic art projects, clowns, pony rides and more. The fireworks display will light up the park starting at 10 p.m. Parking fees will vary depending on whether you are a resident or not and whether you arrive before noon.

Come and see a beautiful display of fireworks over Kent Lake in Kensington Metropark. This is quite a popular show so try to get there as early as you can. Admission is $10 for those without an annual park pass. As part of the weekend-long celebration, the Grosse Pointe Farms Boat Club and Pier Park will be putting on this event that includes a free concert all weekend and a fireworks display on Saturday, June 30. Saturday’s musical performer will be Soul Provider Band, LLC. Fireworks will begin after the concert. The 12th annual Stars and Stripes Festival will be held at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi and feature carnival rides, monster trucks, a petting zoo, arts & crafts and, yes, fireworks. There will be tons of bands playing all weekend, including Alien Ant Farm, Buckcherry, P.O.D. and more, but the fireworks show will take place Tuesday, July 3.
