While October is usually associated with the spooky, scary parts of our imagination that might have us screaming in terror (or glee!), October is also National Pasta Month! Detroiters are no strangers to great Italian cuisine and below I’ve made a list of just a few of the great pasta dishes you’ll find in the city.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a flying spaghetti monster to attend to.
Lamb Gnocchi @ Angelina’s Italian Bistro
Angelina’s Italian Bistro takes its name from the grandmother of one of its founders and honors that name by staying true to her “from-scratch cooking genius.” All of Angelina’s pasta is made in-house and that shines through in each dish. The lamb gnocchi, however, caught our eye. With roast lamb ragu, whipped ricotta and crispy rosemary, what’s not to love?
Olindo Special @ Giovanni’s Ristorante
As a mainstay of Italian cuisine in Detroit, Giovanni’s Ristorante is hard to pass up. Those looking to mix up seafood and pasta need not look further than the Olindo Special. Gulf shrimp, scallops and artichokes are marinated in pesto pomodoro and then served over a housemade linguine pasta.
Truffle Butter Pasta @ Ottava Via
Ottava Via is new on the Detroit dining scene, but that hasn’t stopped diners and foodies from giving it a shot. Aside from the delicious pizza, Ottava Via patrons are raving about the truffle butter pasta. A perfectly great pasta dish on its own, kick it up a notch with your choice of added meat or seafood, such as chicken or shrimp.
Seafood Pasta @ Roast
Roast may be known as the best steakhouse in Detroit, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only thing on the menu. Like the Olindo Special at Giovanni’s, the seafood pasta from Roast is an Italian delight. Lobster, scallops, clams, garlic and tomato come together for a savory, filling meal that is sure to satisfy that craving we all get.
Baked Lasagna @ Roma Cafe
With a rich history in Detroit that dates back as far as 1888, if not farther, Roma Cafe has long since solidified its claim-to-fame in Italian dining in Detroit. A dish that keeps patrons coming back is the baked lasagna. Layers of pasta, meat sauce, fresh ricotta cheese and mozzarella cheese combine to make one heck of a delicious meal. If that doesn’t catch your fancy, Roma Cafe has a plentiful selection of pasta you can try at your stomach’s desire.
