How nice does a beautiful summer day out on the lake sound? Perfect, right? Hitting the water in a sailboat great way to enjoy all of the beautiful lakes Michigan offers, and learning to sail is a fun hobby that will last a lifetime. Sign up for one of these sailing courses at a metro Detroit yacht club and Styx won’t be the only one singing, “Come Sail Away!”
The Detroit Yacht Club will be offering their DYC Flying Scots Sailing Program throughout the summer. Classes began earlier this month, but they will run until the end of August. There is also an advanced sailing course featuring racing skills for DYC members that have already taken the basic sailing course.
The Grosse Ile Yacht Club will be hosting their adult sailing program throughout the summer. The program takes place over a one month period with classes held once per week. Classes will focus on basic sailing techniques, water safety, and proper sailboat operation. The GIYC will also be participating in US Sailing’s First Sail program, which is designed to give non-sailors an afternoon to see if sailing is for them before signing up for a course.
The Crescent Sail Club wants you to come sail on Lake St. Clair with them this summer with multiple sailing classes and events. Students sign-up for Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday 12-week classes that will begin the week of June 5. Other events include the Doublehanded Sailing Series on Monday, June 5 and Junior Sailing Instruction will take place Thursday, June 8 through Saturday, June 10.
The Bayview Yacht Club features America’s Cup racers and sailing world champions as class instructors, so you know you’re learning from the best. The club’s seven-week course will seven-week course that will accommodate all levels of sailors from intermediate to advanced. You’ll also enjoy Bayview Yacht Club member privileges while attending the classes, along with the opportunity to participate in week night and Saturday night races.
The Detroit Boat Club will be hosting an extensive sailing program throughout the summer. Every Thursday evening the club will teach new sailors the basics of sailing in an entertaining and simple way. You will walk away having learned the parts of the boat, how to rig sails, boat steering, how to dock the boat, and water safety.
