From Night Runs to Dog Adoptions: 5 Local September Events

September is officially upon us, which means the weather will slowly start to change. Hot days for family trips to the beach are numbered, which means you might have to find some other things to do. Luckily, the Metro Detroit area has some fun events for the whole family to enjoy. Here are five events to check out in southeast Michigan throughout September.

Art & Apples

The Art & Apples Festival is one of the most diverse art festivals in Southeast Michigan with over 300 artists from all over the country and internationally bringing their work to the event. Over 200,000 festival goers are expected to pack Rochester Municipal Park on the weekend of September 9. There will also be live entertainment, food vendors, interactive exhibits, and an abundance of fresh apple treats.

Dally in the Alley

The Dally in the Alley returns on Saturday, September 10 for another day full of music, food, art, and cultural celebration. The street fair takes place in the north Cass Corridor in Detroit and has been a staple in the community since 1977. 15th Annual Great Lakes Bat Festival

The 15th annual Great Lakes Bat Festival returns to Macomb Township on Saturday, September 17 to showcase the best bats in the Great Lakes area. The family friendly event is aimed to teach people about the unique role bats play in the Great Lakes ecosystem and other fascinating facts. There will be activities for children, presentations, speakers, live animals, hands-on activities, and interactive exhibits.

Paws in the Park

The Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Paws in the Park at Memorial Park on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18. For $5, families can bring their dogs to the park where there will be dog shows, exhibitors, and contests. There will also be adoptable dogs from local rescues on site for those looking for their new furry friend.

Night Nation Run Detroit

Those looking to combine their love for Electronic Dance Music and running will finally have the perfect event. The Night Nation Run on Saturday, September 17 at the Hazel Park Raceway is a 5K run filled with music, lights, lasers, and multiple DJs and celebrity performers. Each registered runner will receive a t-shirt, a race bib, a glow necklace, and admission to the after party.
