As we head into the remaining days of the first month of the new year, we thought we’d offer up some fun activities to get you out of the house this weekend. Yes, we know it’s getting cold again outside and the last thing you want to do is brave the harshness of winter, but trust us when we say that these events are worth it.

Whether you’re looking to take in a concert or challenge your mind at an art exhibit, there’s something to do for everyone this weekend in the D.

Music

This weekend, as part of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s three-week celebration of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart known as Mozart Fest, you’ll be able to enjoy the historic composer’s 40th symphony. Saturday’s show begins at 8 p.m. Sunday’s show begins at 3 p.m. Be sure to get there an hour early to hear from guest speaker Kathryn Libin, Mozart Festival Scholar-in-Residence.

With more than 60 performances in nine days, the 2017 Ferndale Blues Festival is a blues fan’s dream come true. The festival kicks off today, January 27 and concludes on Saturday, Feb. 4. Click here for a full list of venues and artists.

Art

For the art lovers out there, we have two exhibits, one of which starts today. Black Identity: Redefining the Black Body opens today at The Carr Center in Detroit and “will feature the work of over a dozen local Detroit artists all centered on the stereotypically viewed black body, focusing on visual language, and the current negatively impressed image of blacks in American culture.”

Food & Drink

February 14th, a day of romance, is just over a couple weeks away, but you can start to indulge in cocktails and sweets this weekend at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. Indulgence 2017 will have more than 100 flavored vodkas, martinis and more along with chocolates, cakes and custom ice cream. So dance, drink and indulge with that special someone this Saturday, January 28 at 8 p.m.

If you’re looking for something with a little more, let’s say, pop to your evening, check out Bubble Fest at Blackfinn Ameripub in Royal Oak tonight, January 27 at 8 p.m. Tickets will get you 10 champagne cocktail samples, passed appetizers and desserts.

Entertainment

Elvis Lives! is a multi-media experience that will take you through the life of the King of Rock on Saturday, January 28 at 2 p.m. at 7:30 p.m. at Center Campus – Macomb Center for the Performing Arts. Finalists from Elvis Presley Enterprises’ worldwide Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest take the stage to exhibit a different part of Elvis’ musical career.
