As most of you know by now, The Cheesecake Factory is coming to Novi. The day the announcement was made, it was all I saw as I scrolled through Facebook, which I guess was a nice change of pace from the usual “OMG… snow!”

While this is exciting news and all, I strongly urge you not to miss out on the delicious dessert at these local favorite Metro Detroit bakeries and restaurants:

Peteet’s Famous Cheesecakes, 13835 9 Mile Rd., Oak Park, swears you “haven’t lived” until you’ve tried one of their rich and creamy gourmet cheesecakes. The two-layer cheesecake comes in nearly two-dozen flavors, including Red Velvet, Peach Cobbler, Apple Crumb and French Vanilla Cappuccino. Cheesecakes are available whole and by the slice. If you’re indecisive when it comes to ordering, there are free samples in store all day to help you narrow it down.

Lucki’s Cheesecakes, 7111 W McNichols Rd., Detroit, has over 35 varieties of cheesecake. They also specialize in sugar-free options for those of you with dietary restrictions. Popular flavors include Banana Pudding, Apple Strawberry and Lemon Meringue. If you want to meld several flavors together, they have a create-your-own-cheesecake service, which sounds like a (dangerous) dream come true.

This is how you Traverse Michigan. With cutting edge technology, tons of cargo space, and advanced safety features, Chevy Traverse is your key to unlocking the mitten state.

Pronto, 608 S Washington Ave., Royal Oak, is known for its gourmet desserts, and cheesecake happens to be one of them. It comes in five varieties, including Chocolate, Oreo, Plain, White-Chocolate Raspberry and Orange-Chocolate. Each can be purchased by the slice or whole.

Astoria Pastry Shop, 541 Monroe St., Detroit, is my personal favorite when it comes to cheesecake. The Triple Chocolate is to die for, but they also have Caramel Apple, Key Lime, Oreo, Strawberry and a seasonal Pumpkin Spice cheesecake. They say a 6-inch cheesecake serves six to eight people, but you could just have one slice for six days straight and keep it all to yourself.

Ellen’s Bakery and Café, 2495 Orchard Lake Rd., Sylvan Lake, has a daily rotation of cheesecakes, including flavors like Pumpkin Spice, Hazelnut-Milk Chocolate, Rocky Road and Turtle. Sign up for the VIP Birthday Club and you’ll get $4 off on your half birthday and $5 off on your actual birthday!

Detroit’s Cheesecake Bistro, 1045 Brush St., Detroit, serves only one flavor of cheesecake, so you know they’ve perfected it. Their Sweet Potato cheesecake is not only delicious, but it’s also made out of a vegetable. That means you can eat more of it, right?

Any way you slice it, cheesecake is an irresistible dessert. It’s even more enticing at these local mom and pop locations. Forget about the calories and enjoy!
