Despite no one ever really crawling, bar crawls can be a lot of fun. Getting a group together to venture out to visit the best bars in the area guarantees an entertaining night out. Sometimes you might need to jazz things up a little bit, however, and that’s where themed bar crawls can help. Dressing up in costumes and meeting people just as crazy as you while enjoying some drinks is a fun way to spend a night. So whether you’re looking to show off your 90s fashion, your Harry Potter cosplay, or have a banana costume you’re dying to use, we’ve got the bar crawls for you. Speaking as a 90s kid, I may be a little biased, but there was no time like the 90s. Whether it was the neon windbreakers or the “fashionable” fanny packs, the 90s was a decade of good fashion. You can relive the glory days during this weekend’s 90s Bar Crawl in Royal Oak. Bring your Furbies along for a journey through many of Royal Oak’s most popular bars including O’Tooles, Fifth Avenue, and Blackfinn Ameripub. You’ll be able to enjoy drink specials and the biggest 90s hit songs all day. Be sure to visit the event’s website for tickets and other information. If you ever wanted to go on a bar crawl in a banana costume, we won’t question it. Instead, we’ll advise you check out the Detroit Going Bananas! Bar Crawl. The crawl will begin at 11 a.m. with the names of bars expected to be announced soon. If you can’t make it or live closer to Ann Arbor, check out the same event taking place in downtown Ann Arbor on September 30. Those looking for a more magical bar crawl need to check out the Expecto Bar Crawl in Royal Oak on September 16. All wizards, witches, Halfbloods, and Muggles are invited to bring their wands and robes for a special Harry Potter themed bar crawl filled with themed drinks, a Sorting Hat to decide what house you’re in (“Not Slytherin”), no cover at certain locations, souvenirs to take home, and much more. Check-in begins at 1 p.m. and a list of participating bars is expected to be announced soon, so be sure to join the Facebook group and practice your Refilling Charm. Built for those who build. For football fans, Saturdays and Sundays this fall might be reserved for sitting on the couch and watching the games. Although that’s a great way to take in all the action, another fun way could be taking part in a football themed bar crawl in Wayne on September 30. Hosted by Westland Area Jaycees, this pub crawl encourages everyone to sport their favorite team attire and enjoy a day filled with football, drinks, and more football. Be sure to grab your tickets fast or you’ll end up sacked at home. Remember to drink responsibly and plan ahead with a designated driver or take advantage of one of these local designated driving services. 90s Bar Crawl (8/19)
