When it comes to cookies, everyone’s got a favorite—texture and flavor usually being the two key components. While some of us prefer to bake our own special recipe, we all have those days when we’re in a rush or we just don’t feel like spending time in the kitchen.

On those occasions, we can count our lucky stars that Metro Detroit is home to several spectacular bakeries that specialize in the art of cookie making. If you find yourself craving a chocolate chip cookie, get yourself over to one of the following places stat:

Avalon International Breads, 422 W. Willis St., Detroit, makes five classic cookie varieties from scratch, but the most popular is by far the Sea Salt Chocolate Chunk cookie. While I’ve never had this cookie in particular, I can tell you that a chocolate chip cookie with bacon and sea salt was the best thing I’ve ever consumed. In my entire life. Ever.

Pinwheel Bakery, 220 W. 9 Mile Rd., Ferndale, bakes up fresh cookies daily, in flavors like Ginger Molasses, S’mores and the tried and true Peanut Butter and Oatmeal. If you’re looking for something out of the box, lavender shortbread and Mexican tea cookies are a few of the bakery’s more unique items. They also offer cookies by the pound as well as cookie trays, which are perfect for parties (or just a hearty appetite).

Families are always on the go, and the Trailblazer combines safety, comfort and accessibility to fit your family's needs. Discover the available features that make Trailblazer an ideal family SUV.

Astoria Pastry Shop, with locations in Detroit and Royal Oak, features 26 different flavors of cookies, so you can practically sample a new one every day for a month (heart healthy concept, eh?). Michigan Cherry Chocolate Chunk, Fudge Brownie, Peanut Butter Chunk and Raspberry Tart are among your choices.

Tringali’s Bakery, 29100 Schoenherr Rd., Warren, is an authentic Italian bakery serving up tried and true Italian treats. Butter cookies, Almond cookies, Biscotti, Fruit & Fig cookies, Angel Wings and Italian cookies are a few of the delicious options.

Just Baked, 33309 7 Mile Rd., Livonia, is best known for its cupcakes, but the bakery also produces cookies and cookie cakes. Sugar cookies are artfully shaped and iced, while cookie cakes are perfect for birthdays and other special occasions. You can order “The BIG Cookie” in Chocolate Chip, Triple Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Cherry or Peanut Butter, and have it topped with various icing decorations.

Sweet Potato Sensations, 17337 Lahser Rd., Detroit, makes cookies you can feel good about devouring. Well, at least slightly less guilty. Sweet Potato Cookies can be purchased plain, with walnuts and raisins or with walnuts and chocolate chips. I don’t know why you’d ever want to ruin a cookie by putting raisins in it, but that’s just one person’s opinion.

There you have it—next time your sweet tooth strikes and you’d rather not pick up a spatula, there are plenty of bakeries in Metro Detroit that have got you covered.
