Whether you want to watch a movie outdoors, compete in some trivia competitions, or visit a world class art museum, Metro Detroit has always been a great place to experience things for the great price of… free! As we approach the final stretch of summer (don’t panic, there’s still plenty of summer left), we want to make sure you make the most of the beautiful weather without having to spend a single dime. Here are five free outdoor concert series that have upcoming shows to help you soak up the rest of summer!

Rockin’ on the Riverfront

The annual free concert series Rockin’ on the Riverfront has certainly rocked Metro Detroiters this summer with some truly awesome performances, but the series isn’t done just yet. There are three more shows in August, including Starship featuring Mickey Thomas on Friday, August 3, Survivor on August 10, and War on August 17. Each show begins at 7:30 p.m. More information can be found on the official website.

Music on the Lake Concert Series

Veterans Memorial Park in St. Clair Shores has hosted a variety of free concerts throughout the summer, and you’ll have two more chances to catch some great music in the beautiful park. Air Margaritaville, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band, will perform on Wednesday, August 8, and Captain Fantastic Detroit, an Elton John tribute band, will close out the series on August 15. No park pass is required and you’ll also be able to enjoy other park features such as bocce ball, horseshoes, and other fun.

Concerts in the Park in Ann Arbor

Burns Park in Ann Arbor provides families the opportunity to relax and enjoy live music in one of the area’s most beautiful parks. Concerts in the Park will feature American folk singer Matt Watroba on August 5, African/Indian inspired music from Guy Louis on August 12, and a reunion of Ann Arbor favorite Mustard’s Retreat Trio on August 26. All concerts begin at 3 p.m. and more information can be found on Ann Arbor’s park and recreation website.

Adventure starts with a vehicle that’s up for anything. Trailblazer combines comfort you want, the versatility you need, and the technology to make every moment count.

Auburn Hills Summer Music Series

Those in the Auburn Hills area will be able to enjoy the new Pop-Up-Public square next to The Den with entertaining performances from local musicians. The series will conclude with performances from The Kroon Trio on Friday August 10 and Guy Louis (just in case if you missed him in Ann Arbor) & Chautauqua Express on August 24. Lawn chair and blankets are encouraged as there are picnic tables, but they are only available on a first come, first serve basis.

Music From the Heart in Livonia

The campus of Livonia City Hall has hosted free outdoor concerts on Thursdays throughout July, and they’ll continue to do so throughout August as well. Local musicians such as Steve King and the Dittilies (August 9), Sinjon Smith (August 16), Devin Scillian & Arizona Son Band (August 23), and Emerging Soul (August 30) will close out the local music series. Be sure to bring plenty of blankets and chairs for the whole family and enjoy the last few summer nights with some great music.
