Last week, I wrote about great places in metro Detroit for cheese lovers to check out and what pairs better with cheese than some fine wine? Below are a few wine bars that are worth checking out in metro Detroit.

The Royce

Taking its name from co-owner Angela Rutherford’s grandfather, a former detective sergeant in Flint and supporter of his community through his local school programs, The Royce is a great spot in downtown Detroit to enjoy a glass of wine, paired with well-chosen food. If there’s something that catches your fancy, The Royce also sells its wine by the bottle. Both owners, Angela Rutherford and Ping Ho, are wine lovers and saw The Royce as an extension of their personalities and skill sets in design and finance, respectively.

Vertical

As one of the Detroit Free Press/Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers’ top ten new restaurants in metro Detroit, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention Vertical. As with other establishments on this list, Vertical provides a relaxing atmosphere that can be enjoyed over a glass of your favorite red wine along with one of Vertical’s many small plates. Tickets to tomorrow’s Takeover dinner at Vertical are sold out and our contest to win a pair of tickets has ended, but that should only serve as an even greater indication that this is not a place any wine connoisseur should pass up.

La Cucina del Vino

La Cucina del Vino owner Lisa Ribaudo got her start in the wine business at a very young age, helping her grandfather make wine in the basement of his Detroit home by crushing grapes with her tiny feet. Fast forward to today and Ribaudo owns “The Kitchen of Wine” after having served as the director of wine operations for Andiamo Restaurant Group for ten years. With a vast selection of Italian reds, whites/roses and more, and an owner with years of experience in the wine business, La Cucina del Vino delivers the experience wine drinkers are looking for.

This is how you Traverse Michigan. With cutting edge technology, tons of cargo space, and advanced safety features, Chevy Traverse is your key to unlocking the mitten state.

Brix Wine & Charcuterie Boutique

Brix is the newest wine bar on this list and is scheduled to open October 21, but it’s been generating enough buzz that we wanted to include it here to get the word out. Owned by Mikiah Westbrooks, Brix is located inside a former bank building in West Village. Retaining the look and feel of the original building, Brix has simply repurposed the space to fit the needs of a wine & charcuterie boutique and the wants of Westbrooks, a former hairdresser and social media consultant. The grand opening is about a month away, so keep this one on your radar.
