The night before Thanksgiving is the biggest bar night of the year. It’s the night in which all of your best friends from high school are back in town, and your childhood friends from down the block are home again from out of state. If that’s not a cause for a celebration, I don’t know what is!

While there’s certainly nothing wrong with going to your favorite watering hole on Thanksgiving Eve, you should also consider heading to a Metro Detroit bar hosting a special event on Wednesday, Nov. 26. Lucky for you, I’ve done some research! All of the following local bars are hosting events that will keep you and your friends laughing and drinking into the wee hours of the night before the big feast and family fun ensues:

On the Dunes, 2055 Haggerty Rd., Commerce Twp., is a sports bar with indoor golf and outdoor volleyball during the warmer months—unfortunately, we’re not currently experiencing the latter. The night before Thanksgiving, On the Dunes is hosting a party on the busiest bar night of the year. Drink specials include $2 cans of beer, $3 Three Olive mixed drinks and $3 Piehole Whiskey.

Just don’t indulge in too much Pecan, Apple or Cherry Pie-flavored whiskey though, as you do have a family dinner to make it through the following day.

Whether you're going out on a fishing trip, discovering new hiking spots, or heading out for a weekend of camping, the Trailblazer is an ideal companion for your active lifestyle.

Small’s, 10339 Conant St., Hamtramck, is hosting a Thanksgiving Eve Bash party featuring resident DJs Pleasure Kitten, Elektrosonik, Aaron Hingst and Void6. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the night will include tons of new wave and industrial music.

If you’re 21 or over, get to the party before 10 p.m. and you’ll get in for free! Those ages 18 and up have to pay a $5 cover charge, and 21 and up after 10 p.m. pay $3. Drink specials will be flowing all night long!

Bleu Detroit, 1540 Woodward Ave., Detroit, presents “Thanks for Giving: The Night Before Thanksgiving,” from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The 21 and up event will feature music by DJ Hit and DJ BJ, and there will be drink specials all night long. Don’t forget that there’s a dress code, and no jerseys, sweatpants, baggy pants or tank tops are allowed.

Coat check is mandatory, and valet parking is optional. If you’re looking to dance the night away, Bleu is the place to be!

Luna, 1815 N. Main St., Royal Oak, is one of Metro Detroit’s most popular dance clubs, and this wouldn’t be a complete pre-Thanksgiving night out list without mentioning Luna’s Annual Thanksgiving Bash.

Voted “Best Dance Club” for eight years in a row by ClickOn Detroit (including this year!), Luna is the place to be any night, especially Thanksgiving Eve. With two bars, drink specials, live entertainment and plenty of music, you’re sure to have a good time!

Mon Jin Lau, 1515 E. Maple Rd., Troy, is a sushi lounge, so it may not be the first venue to come to mind when you think “bar night out.” However, the sushi bar is hosting a Thanksgiving Eve party that rivals all the others on this list, so it should be up for consideration!

Beginning at 9 p.m., join a special edition of the restaurant’s Shanghai Wednesday celebration. The night will feature special guest DJs, 15 percent off food items on the menu, $2.50 domestic beers and $6 Belvedere vodka. Sorry to you youngin’s, this one is 21 and up only.

Albert’s on the Alley, 5651 Middlebelt Rd., Garden City, is hosting a Turkey Bash to celebrate Thanksgiving! Drink specials will be served all night long, and include $2 bottles and $4 well drinks. Sit back and relax with your friends, dance the night away to music spun by a live DJ, or participate in games throughout the night, and you’ll have the chance to win a variety of prizes, including $250 Albert’s Cash.

Elektricity, 15 S. Saginaw St., Pontiac, is hosting Thanksgiving Eve featuring Robert Taylor, Attak, Trill Clinton and Cameron Oakley. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and everyone ages 18 and up is welcome. Get there before 10 p.m. and get in for free! Afterwards, be prepared to shell out $10.

Channel 95.5 will be live broadcasting from the party, and there will be plenty of music throughout the night.

The Avenue, 3632 Elizabeth St., Wayne, or “The Ave,” as the cool kids call it, is hosting its annual party in honor of the biggest bar night of the year. This shindig will take place both indoors and outdoors, thanks to a heated patio. Mike Londeau will serve as the party’s host, and DJ Ryan Richards of 98.7 Amp Radio will provide the night’s music.

Whichever of the above bar events you decide to attend, or should you choose to hop between a few, make sure to do so safely. Take a peek at our recently published safe rides home article and program in a few numbers for local designated driving services in the D into your phone. And while you’re at it, maybe delete that Uber app on your phone. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
