With summer officially here, there’s no better time to spend on the open waters around Metro Detroit. But, not all of us are lucky enough to own a boat, jet ski, kayak or anything else to ride the waves with. Whether you’re looking for a nice, relaxing time or a rip-roaring adventure on the water, Metro Detroit has plenty of places with watercrafts for rent.

Detroit Jet Ski Rental

Have you ever wanted to catch a wave on the Detroit River? How about speeding across the water and waving to our neighbors to the south? Well, thanks to a locally-owned business, Detroit Jet Ski Rental, your aquatic dreams are now a reality. DJSR is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, Wednesday through Sunday. Rentals are $45 for 30 minutes or $80 for an hour. They also have discounted “happy hour” rates on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Kensington Metropark

Located in Milford, Kensington Metropark is where you can rent paddle boats, rowboats, kayaks, swan boats and more. Traverse the open waters of Kent Lake in a kayak. Soak up some sun on a paddleboat. Or, spend a romantic evening with your partner in a swan boat. Rates vary depending on the watercraft.

RKC Adventures at Belle Isle

Open seven days a week, Riverside Kayak Connection offers kayak, canoe and pontoon rentals at The Flynn Pavilion on Belle Isle. Take a trip around the island to see just how big it really is. RKC is also working on providing rentals further down the Detroit River at Elizabeth Park in the future. Check their website for updates.

Adventure starts with a vehicle that’s up for anything. Trailblazer combines comfort you want, the versatility you need, and the technology to make every moment count.

Detroit River Sports

Detroit River Sports doesn’t necessarily offer watercraft rentals, per say, but rather guided tours. You can take a kayak tour of the Detroit River, a paddleboard tour of Lake St. Clair or sign up for their “Paddle to Table” tour, where a farm-to-table meal from Coriander Kitchen & Farm will be served upon returning to the marina. After working up an appetite paddling on the water, what a great way to end the day!
