For most people, Father’s Day is about more than celebrating our biological father; it’s about father figures in our life. People that guided us and taught us to be good people. Fathers can be our heroes, and the thing is, heroes need to eat, too. In my mind, all great Father’s Day food and drinks come down to three things and I like to call them The Three Bs of Father’s Day: Burgers, Brews & BBQ. Lucky for all of our fathers and father figures, there is no shortage of good eats or thirst-quenching drinks in metro Detroit.
What can you say about a good burger that hasn’t already been said? It’s the perfect sandwich and, like any good sandwich, has a million permutations — and that’s just in metro Detroit! In Detroit, you have places like Honest John’s Bar & Grill and Green Dot Stables. Head northwest and you’ll find some of the best burgers at Basement Burger Bar in Farmington and Mason’s Bar & Grill in Livonia. On the north end of metro Detroit, Vinsetta Garage in Berkley is a safe bet, but we recommend trying Mt. Chalet II in Royal Oak, too.
It’s hard to find a dad, especially one from Michigan, that doesn’t enjoy a cold one every now and then. Lucky for you, metro Detroit is a hotspot for great craft beer. Over in Detroit, the Grand Trunk Pub is a great pick if you want a well-rounded taste of Michigan craft beer thanks to more than 20 Michigan beers on tap. Over in Rochester Hills, you’ll find Clubhouse BFD (Beer-Food-Drink), which carries 50 beers in tap and many, many more in cans/bottles.
Even if your dad is someone that loves to grill and BBQ on his own, making up clever new recipes and spices to try, everyone likes to be treated every once in awhile. Good news for all the BBQ-loving dads, metro Detroit is chock full of good BBQ. Redsmoke BBQ in Greektown is a staple for BBQ in Detroit with slow-cooked chicken, pork, ribs…all smoked over hickory and applewood. If you want to get a bunch of great BBQ and take it home to celebrate Dad, Lazybones Smokehouse in Roseville is a perfect choice with all the classic BBQ options and even smoked salmon!

If you’re trying to be efficient with The Three Bs, Brews, BBQ and Bourbon is happening this weekend in Ferndale, and that’s two of the three Bs right there!
With Father’s Day fast approaching, where will you be taking dear old Dad to this weekend? Will you treat him to a mouth-watering burger at Vinsetta Garage or discover his new favorite craft beer (by trial and error)? Wherever you plan to celebrate in metro Detroit, we want to wish you a happy Father’s Day.
