When you wake up this Sunday morning craving a nice breakfast, skip brunch (just this once). Instead, hop in your car and head to the Birmingham Farmers Market.
There, you’ll find Wackey Waffle, a breakfast and brunch restaurant, serving up Belgian waffles on a stick. Owner Lisa Jabbori sets up shop there every Sunday throughout the farmers market season, which runs through Sunday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in downtown Birmingham.
There are six to eight different waffles on the menu at a time, or you can create your own with toppings like strawberries, maple syrup, sprinkles and, for the fall season, candy corn and cinnamon apples.
“I have one called ‘The Classic,’ which is just maple syrup and powdered sugar,” Jabbori said. “People really like that one.”

Other decadent breakfast (bordering on dessert) creations you’ll find include the Mr. Pressley (a chocolate-dipped waffle topped with peanut butter and banana) and Apples to Apples (topped with cinnamon apples).
The batter itself is imported directly from Belgium, and the waffle sticks are created with a special machine that cooks every surface perfectly to a golden brown. Wackey Waffles sell for $5 a pop.
“I’m the first person in Michigan to have the machine, so when people see (the product), it’s different, it’s creative, and they’re good!,” Jabbori said.
While the farmers market is wrapping up for the season mid month, Wackey Waffle caters and is perfect for weddings, showers, birthdays and holiday parties. For parties with at least 100 people, Jabbori comes out on site and sets up shop. For smaller parties, she creates a customized waffle bar for the party. This is Wackey Waffle’s first full season at the Birmingham Farmers Market, and in the years to come, Jabbori hopes to build up her catering business and eventually develop a storefront.
Chocolate dipped, peanut butter drizzled or sprinkle topped, Wackey Waffle is all around delicious. For more information on Wackey Waffle (along with an array of tasty photos), follow along on Instagram.
