Once we grow out of the age of mandatory education, finding the motivation to learn something new can seem a bit arduous. What if it was fun and had a low-level commitment? Beginning this Wednesday, frame in Hazel Park will be offering one-night classes/workshops to curious cats across metro Detroit. Topics range from botanical in nature to savory in taste.

“Joe and I built frame as a creative hub, to create experience,” said frame co-founder Cari Vaughn. “And, to us, experience is learning, seeing, tasting and exploring something new.”

If you’ve ever wanted to learn first-hand how to make these delicious baked goods, March 28 and May 9 will be your chance (UPDATE: both of these dates have sold out). The night’s lessons will culminate in a “mixed media collage” that will incorporate different pieces of art created throughout the class. Light dinner and cocktails will be available.

Metro Detroit favorites MyThy (My-Tee) Huynh and Matt Tulpa will be leading a class of 20 on May 16 and June 13 (UPDATE: both of these dates have sold out) that will teach students how to make their own dumplings, noodles and broth. The class will learn from a recipe MyThy learned as a child. Green tea and red wine will be served and the fruits of your labor will be available to enjoy at night’s end. Plus, take a few dumplings home with you to enjoy later!

“We love the topics of these five classes due to their tactile opportunities and that each student takes home a beautiful object they have created, in which to surround themselves,” said Vaughn. “We curated frame’s spring classes as a way for guests to explore interests, hone their skills, master a new art craft, meet new friends and drink cocktails.”

Vaughn said this is only the beginning of something frame plans to continue into the summer months. Expect more classes and workshops to be announced in the coming months.
