Looking back on a favorite memory, you might notice that the person you made that memory with is just as important as the memory itself. Spending time with loved ones and creating cherished memories is how we end up looking back on our lives together. No one knows that better than our veterans and the families of veterans.

With Veterans Day coming up, metro Detroit has some great events that will give you and your family & friends a chance to honor our local veterans and make some new memories together.

Detroit Veterans Day Parade

On November 5, for the 12th annual year, the Metropolitan Detroit Veteran’s Coalition will be hosting the annual Veteran’s Day Parade in downtown Detroit. This year, the parade will be honoring Grand Marshall Specialist Five James McCloughan, a native of South Haven, Michigan and Vietnam War veteran. The parade will start at Jefferson and Chene, move along West Jefferson and end at Hart Plaza at approximately the same time the 4 Star 4 Mile Race concludes.

4 Star 4 Mile Race

Taking place at the same time as the Detroit Veterans Day Parade, the 4 Star 4 Mile Race is another way to show support for United States veterans. All proceeds from the race will go towards Metropolitan Detroit Veterans Coalition and Wins for Warriors Foundation. The registration fee includes a “Warrior to Run For” t-shirt where you can write the name or pin a picture of the “Warrior” in your life you want to honor.

Vets Fest

The final Veterans Day festivity in Detroit on November 5 is Vets Fest in Hart Plaza. Entry is free to the public. Enjoy food, drinks, music and games from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m. Those looking for information on veteran service organizations can check out the booths that will be set up at the festival. Plus, since Hart Plaza is the end point of the parade and run, you’ll be able to catch both events before heading into the Plaza for the festivities.

Salute to Veterans Gala

Hosted by the Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America (MPVA), the Salute to Veterans Gala is an annual event that honors “those who are serving, those who have served, and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.” The Gala, MPVA’s biggest fundraising event of the year, will take place at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi on Friday, November 10 from 6-9 p.m. In addition to the Gala, there will also be an online auction from November 3-17.
