If you’re like me, you spend way too much time indoors. After a long day at work, all I want to do is plop myself down on the couch and watch TV or play a video game. This weekend, I’m making a vow to myself to do something outside every day. Given that it’s Memorial Day weekend, that shouldn’t be a problem. From concerts to parades, check out all of these great events popping off this weekend in metro Detroit!
Concerts
All eyes are on Hart Plaza this weekend for Movement, an annual electronic music festival. As part of the large pool of talented DJs, this year’s festival will be closed out by the Wu-Tang Clan. If electronic music isn’t your thing, BLED FEST (Big Love’s Educational Festival) in Howell caters to the punk rock crowd with a swath of bands over the course of one day, May 26. Over at DTE Energy Music Theatre, Eddie Money will be opening the theatre’s concert season for the 26th year in a row.
Family Fun
If you’re looking for some quality time with the family, check out Jimmy John’s Field in Utica. Per usual, they have fun events happening all weekend long (in addition to USPBL games), like Fireworks Friday, Classic Rock Saturday and on Memorial Day, they will be giving away USPBL Star-Spangled Sunglasses. After you’ve caught a local baseball game at JJ’s Field, cool off at a local beach or waterpark. Red Oaks Waterpark in Madison Heights and Splash n Blast in Kensington Metropark open this weekend and are filled with water slides, waterfalls and more for kids and kids-at-heart to enjoy. Spencer Park in Rochester Hills opens its lakeside beach on May 27. The big day itself, Memorial Day, is on May 28 and you can bet there will be a Memorial Day Parade in just about every city, town and community across Metro Detroit. Royal Oak, Ferndale, South Lyon, Farmington, Novi, Northville and Hazel Park are just a few cities hosting a parade to honor fallen veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
