Cooking Classes to Wine Dinners: August Food & Drink Events in the D

In order to expand your culinary palate or enjoy a night out with a few cocktails this month, put one of the following August food and drink events on your social calendar:

The RattleSnake Club of Detroit hosts a Chef’s Cooking Class on Saturday, Aug. 8. The most popular cooking class of the year, it’s a grilling event held on the terrace. Beginning at 2 p.m., enjoy hands-on instructions and demonstrations, along with a meal paired with summer beers and wines. The five-course menu includes Grilled Pizza and Chipotle-Rubbed Salmon Tacos with Apple-Cucumber Salsa.

Tickets cost $65 per person and can be purchased online.

Karl’s Cabin, located in Plymouth, holds a Black Star Farms Winemaker Dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The five-course meal will be served with a wine pairing selected by Black Star Farms winemaker Lee Lutes, who will host the event.

Weather permitting, the event will be held on the patio, and dishes include Scallop Ceviche salad (paired with Pinot Gris) and Seared Strip Steak (served with Cabernet Franc). Tickets cost $59 and the event begins at 6 p.m.

The Berkley Pub Crawl is set for Thursday, Aug. 20, and for just $25, attendees will enjoy appetizers, drink discounts, a Pub Crawl T-shirt and free shuttle bus. The pub crawl makes stops at favorites like 24 Seconds, Blarney Stone Pub, Crispelli’s Bakery & Pizzeria, Republica and more.

The pub crawl begins at 5:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased the day of for $30.

Blake Farms of Armada puts on the first ever Cider Dayze Festival on Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30. The festival will feature Michigan-made beer from breweries like Perrin, ROAK and Short’s, along with cider and wine from Uncle John’s Hard Cider, Blake’s Hard Cider and more.

There will be live music and activities including cornhole and barrel races. Tickets can be purchased for $35 (one day pass) or $55 (two day pass), and include 15 three-ounce pours and a commemorative glass.
