Originally located in Austin, TX, Rocky’s Road Brew is a mobile food truck that serves coffee, donuts and, yes, vegan tacos. I know, I know. Dearborn’s M Cantina boasts an impressive lineup of signature tacos on their menu. From braised short rib tacos to fajita combo tacos with chicken steak and shrimp, there’s a lot of flavor on this menu. I tend to go for chicken tacos, so when I saw the “Arabes” taco, I had to try it. How often are you going to see a taco on a menu with cucumber yogurt sauce? That’s the kind of variety you’ll find at M Cantina.
What’s great about Dos Locos Tacos in Hamtramck is that there are no frills. The interior harkens back to a classic diner, complete with circular bar stools and the tacos are freakin’ delicious. Whether you want a classic carne asada taco or prefer the soy chorizo, Dos Locos Tacos makes them well and makes them fast. Plus, if you’re feeling extra hangry, you can upgrade any taco to a burrito for $2!
In addition to being a great imported food market local to Metro Detroit, Carnival Market also has a nice, little restaurant nestled inside. When it comes to their tacos, they’re not kidding around. There are more than 15 choices of meat, such as carne asada (marinated steak bites), bucce roja (pork stomach in salsa) and chicken mole (marinated shredded chicken in mole sauce). Pick any one of these choices (or a mix) for your tacos, which are served on a corn tortilla with cilantro and onions.
At Detroit Taco, you can customize your tacos to your heart’s content. Customization options include a choice of rice & beans, protein (or veggies), type of cheese, salsa and additional toppings. The tacos can be ordered two at a time or ala carte for $3.25 each. Maybe you want one BBQ pork, one fish and one veggie taco. Or maybe you’re feeling the surf-and-turf and throw in a shrimp or fish taco, too! In addition to $2 Taco Tuesday, Detroit Taco does something else just as cool: Meaningful Mondays. Nonprofits can work with DT to promote their organization by earning 20% of proceeds earned by DT on a Monday of their choosing. So go ahead, have another taco! It’s for a cause.
