If you’re growing restless during the summer heat, it’s easy to plop yourself in front of the TV in the air conditioning. Instead, enjoy the AC in your car and go on an adventure! Head to downtown Lake Orion for an afternoon of fun, where you’ll find food, drink and relaxation.
51 North Brewery, 51 N. Broadway St., has several flagship brews, including Lake Orion Light, Paint Creek Tangerine Wheat and Velvet Moose Chocolate Oatmeal Stout. You’ll also find special seasonal selections, as well as wine and mead, when you belly up to the bar. If you’re hungry, try the 51 North Wings (with pineapple ginger sauce!), Roast Beast sandwich or Broadway Bleu and Bacon burger.
Sagebrush Cantina, 28 S. Broadway St., offers the freshest, most authentic fajitas, combos and specialty dinners around. Start with the Mexiskins (an appetizer topped with chorizo), then make your way to a Chimichanga, Carne Asada Burrito Dinner or Steak and Chicken Fajitas. With 16 beers on draft and 20 different brands of tequila on hand, you will never go thirsty.
Additional food options include CJ’s Lakeside Grill, 21 W. Flint St., a home-style restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Royal Oak’s Lockhart’s BBQ, opening a downtown Lake Orion location soon.
If possible, plan your visit on a Wednesday, when there’s plenty going on in downtown Lake Orion. The farmers market is held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. through the end of October, where you’ll find fresh produce, baked goods and more. Check out a map with the farmers market location here.
Later on Wednesday evenings is the Summer Concert Series from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., which continues Wednesday nights through August 26. All concerts are held in the gazebo at Children’s Park and are free to the public. Tonight, enjoy kid’s music provided by Miss Carissa. Next week, jazz group The Josh Martelli Quartet will perform.
