The Chevy Traverse seamlessly offers the space and versatility your family needs, great for everything from gear to groceries.
When you think of a day at the beach, you probably think about laying out in sun, lugging the cooler out to the sand for a picnic, or just simply floating in the relaxing water. Those are all great ways to enjoy the vast amount of southeast Michigan beaches, but there are ways to expand your beach adventure beyond the ordinary. Whether that’s playing volleyball on a sand court, paddle boating your way around the lake, or camping overnight, these five metro Detroit beaches can add more excitement to your beach-going experience. Many metro Detroiters are aware of Lake St. Clair Metropark as it not only offers beautiful beaches and views of Lake St. Clair, but there is just a ton of things to do there. Almost any outdoor recreational activity is possible at the park, but it’s also one of the best places to get a game of sand volleyball in with a group of friends. There are three courts located off the beach near the West Boardwalk that’s close enough to the water for a cool-off session after a heated match. No one expects you to have all of the water toys necessary to make your beach trip the most fun it can be, so many beaches offer rentals for you to enjoy for a couple hours. Last month we gave you plenty of options for water rentals in metro Detroit, but this time we’ll highlight Detroit’s own Belle Isle. You might already know how beautiful the view is from the beaches, but if you want to venture out in kayaks, canoes, or even paddle boats, you can see the beauty of the Detroit River from a different angle. All your rental needs are located in the Flynn Pavilion. Kensington Metropark, located off the gorgeous Kent Lake, gives beach-goers plenty of options to make the most out of their beach experience. Along with a conventional playground, the park also features a Splash ’N’ Blast park that will certainly keep the little ones entertained. If the splash park is a little too busy for your taste, take the kids to the nearby beach for a relaxing swim in the lake. The Chevy Traverse seamlessly offers the space and versatility your family needs, great for everything from gear to groceries. The family-oriented Camp Dearborn offers plenty of natural beauty that it can’t all be experienced in one day. That’s why the campground in Milford gives families a lot of camping and beach options to make their trip memorable. The site is complete with modern facilities and beach necessities like a sand playground, canoeing, and a half-mile shoreline. The only state park located off of Lake Erie, Sterling State Park offers metro Detroiters a short drive to a mile long beach. The park itself is beautiful, but on the waterfront offers a boat launch and lagoons perfect for fishing. Whether you want to venture out into Lake Erie or cast your line from shore, Sterling State Park gives you a unique wilderness feel no matter where you decide to cast your line.
