Labor Day weekend is the perfect opportunity for you and your family to squeeze the last bit of summer out before fall arrives. You can do this by attending one of the many great festivals happening this weekend, like the Romeo Peach Festival, the Detroit Jazz Festival, or the Michigan State Fair. Those are all fun options, but metro Detroit also has some unique events happening that will end your summer on a high note.

Lancelot Bobblehead Giveaway at Jimmy John’s Field Baseball

While going to a baseball game is not totally unique, the giveaway happening at Jimmy John’s Baseball Field is. The Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers will be taking on the Utica Unicorns for some mid-day baseball action on Monday, but the best part is the first 1,000 fans will receive a Lancelot bobblehead. Why Lancelot? We’re not entirely sure, but it’s a cool giveaway and a great chance to see some United Shore Professional baseball before the season wraps up.

2017 Hamtramck Yacht Club Canoe Races

If you’ve ever dreamed of a race featuring push-carts that look like canoes on wheels, then we have the event for you. Part of the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival, the Hamtramck Yacht Club canoe race has become a staple at the festival. The always entertaining race will begin at noon on the corner of Jos. Campau and Edwin, so be sure to get there early so you can get a good spot to splash the contestants.

Tigers Cornhole Tournament

There’s something about cornhole in the backyard on a summer afternoon that perfectly symbolizes summer in Michigan. You’ll be able to enjoy this summertime favorite at Cheli’s Chili Bar where they are hosting the Tigers Cornhole Tournament. Put together by Michigan Cornhole, the first-ever event will be a double-elimination tournament with the best players in the area. If you and a partner feel like you can take on the most skilled cornhole players, be sure to sign-up before registration closes tonight.

The Silverado is the truck that works as hard as you do.

SplatterBash

Maybe after a long day of festival going, the thing you need is some color in your life. SplatterBash at the Factory at Necto can do just that for you on Labor Day night. The Ultraviolet Paint Party will feature paint cannons splashing guests with bright neon washable paint while playing the best jams. Those who attend are encouraged to wear white and there’ll be drink specials all night long.

Panic in Hamtramck

After a couple year hiatus, Panic in Hamtramck returns for a weekend full of the best indie rock bands. It’s a three day festival starting tonight with Michigan based bands like Human Eye, Mondo Sensorium, Detroit 442, and more hitting the stage. Weekend passes are $26, while general admission tickets are $10 per night.
