Ah, date night. A night where you and your significant other can spend quality time together and have some fun. We’ve given you plenty of date night advice in the past such as the best restaurants for a date night, how to make the most out of outdoor concerts, and outdoor date ideas, however some of those options aren’t exactly the cheapest. Don’t worry, we’ve got you and your wallet’s back. Here are five date options that won’t break your wallet’s heart.

New Center Park

We highlighted New Center Park back in May when we wrote about outdoor venues showing 80s and 90s movies, but the park will be showing some great date night movies, too. For the low price of free, you can watch movies like The Wiz on August 16, Pete’s Dragon on August 18, Manchester by the Sea on August 23, and 8 Mile on August 30. It’s a fun alternative to the typical date night and at the price of free what do you have to lose.

Read a Book at a Bookstore

Another free option, exploring a bookstore. You and your significant other can walk up and down aisles of books and share your favorite stories with each other. Some great used and rare bookstores in the area include John K. King Used & Rare Books, Paperback Outlet in Warren, and Bring Your Old Books. It can be a unique way to spend a couple hours, and if you get some used books it won’t be terribly expensive either.

Dequindre Cut

If you’re looking to take advantage of a nice Michigan summer afternoon or early evening, you can always venture out onto Dequindre Cut. With a pathway perfect for bikes (which you can rent through Wheel House Detroit) or for a leisurely stroll, the two-mile greenway can make for a romantic experience. Paths lead to both Eastern Market and the Detroit River, which are both great date night options.

Encore Records

For our friends in the Ann Arbor area, we suggest getting lost in arguably the best way to experience music:on records. Encore Records in downtown Ann Arbor offers a wide range of records from all genres that you can easily get lost in for hours. Along with the best new and used records around, the store also sells tapes, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays, sheet music, and music memorabilia. It might seem like a romantic-comedy cliche to spend a night out at the record store, but if you and your significant other consider yourselves music buffs, you need to check it out.

The DIA

Going to a museum might seem like expensive date night option, but residents of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties can enjoy the beautiful Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) for free. Hundreds of years of paintings, sculptures, and other pieces of art can be experienced with your significant other making for a money-saving, romantic afternoon. There are also plenty of free events taking place, so be sure to check the calendar to get the most of your DIA date night.
