There are tons of new breweries, bars and restaurants opening up in metro Detroit and it can be a little difficult to keep up with all of them. Being that there are so many, we have compiled a list of all of the new breweries that opened this summer in the D (and a few that are coming soon). Get ready to find all new reasons to sip on Michigan’s craft beer scene.

Jolly Pumpkin

After looking for a space in Royal Oak since 2011, the Ann Arbor-based brewery finally found its latest location in the former Bastone Brewery. Knowing that Jolly Pumpkin was looking for a space, and with Bastone looking to move, they offered up their old space and moved into Monk Beer Abbey’s space in the same building.

Bastone Brewery

Now sharing a building in Royal Oak with Jolly Pumpkin, Bastone Brewery worked with the Ann Arbor-native brewers to make a batch of something new together. Dubbed “Co-Operation Ale,” it is a blend of La Roja and Nectar des Deux. The two breweries opened their new shops in Royal Oak on August 8, 2017.

Urbanrest Brewing Company

Since arriving in Ferndale on June 30, 2017, Urbanrest Brewing Company has been pouring beer made through a modified brewing process called “open fermentation.” This process takes unfermented wort and exposes it to yeast in the environment. As far as food goes, charcuterie boards with cheeses, jams and meats from Farm Field Table are available.

Livernois Tap

Coming in just under the wire, Axle Brewing Company’s latest taproom, Livernois Tap, opened on June 3, 2017. Named appropriately after its Livernois Ave. location in Ferndale, Livernois Tap features 12 to 15 beers from Axle Brewing and a food menu from Grey Ghost’s Four Man Ladder. The taproom features indoor and outdoor communal bench seating and bar seating.

Coming Soon

New places to taste the latest and greatest Michigan craft beer are great, but so is having something to look forward to. Hashtag goals, you know? Keep these breweries on your radar as they’re expected to launch by the end of summer or later this fall.

Black Bottom Brewing Company Inc.

This brewer is expected to open its doors on Howard St. and Trumbull Ave by the end of summer. After leasing space from Le Petit Zinc, Black Bottom Brewing has worked with the French cafe to create a beer menu that compliments the food of Le Le Petit Zinc. All beers are said to be entirely made with Michigan ingredients.

Jamex Brewing Co.

Beginning its buildout just over a year ago, Jamex Brewing Co. in St. Clair Shores is aiming to launch “soon.” The taproom will have eight taps that will be pouring glasses (or growlers) of beer. The location is a former bakery that has been renovated by the Jamex team. Parts of that bakery remain in the new brewery, like these butcher block tables that have been converted into a drink rail.

Eastern Market Brewing Co.

Aptly named, Eastern Market Brewing Co. will be located in the popular outdoor Detroit market where farmers, artists and more gather to sell their wares. The only beer currently mentioned on this brewer’s site is Market Day IPA. Interestingly, this IPA contains a new, different ingredient with every batch. No definite word on when the taps at Eastern Market will begin pouring, but the main signage was added above the entrance last month.

Shipwreck Brewing Co.

As the second brewery on this list aiming to open up shop in St. Clair Shores, Shipwreck Brewing Co. is the dream realization of high school friends John Demers and Tony Bellestri. They originally planned for a spring opening, but as is par for the course in opening new restaurants, breweries, etc., things don’t always go as planned. According to the Shipwreck Facebook page, a grand opening might be around the corner.
