Drinking Vino in the D: Metro Detroit Wine Bars

If you’re looking for an alternative to your tried and true beer tavern this weekend, I suggest putting on your best dress (or pants) and going to a wine bar. Classy and fancy, wine bars offer a vast selection of wines by the glass, as opposed to plain ol’ beer and cocktails.

Metro Detroit is home to several wine bars, so you’ll surely find a new favorite Pinot Noir if you try them all out (just not all in one night)!

MotorCity Wine, 608 Woodward Ave., Detroit, doubles as both a wine bar and wine shop. The drink menu features nearly 20 different varieties, in addition to several meat and cheese side plates. If you’re interested in a mini wine tasting, belly up to the bar and sample five wines for only $10!

The wine list at Vinotecca, 419 S. Main St., Royal Oak, includes a handy guide to help guests decide which wine fits their fancy. If you like what you’re guzzling by the glass, you can purchase a bottle at a discounted price. You don’t want to drink on an empty stomach, and luckily, Vinotecca’s menu is quite expansive, featuring large plates, samplers for the entire table and sushi.

Discover new horizons with the confidence of the Chevy Silverado, from busy streets to scenic views.

Vinology, 110 S. Main St., Ann Arbor, offers a food and wine-pairing chart so you can get the best tasting experience possible. You wouldn’t want to make the mistake of ordering a Muscato with beef, now would you? They also serve over nine different dessert wines, to be paired with teacake, huckleberry pie and more, which is right up my alley.

Mélange Bistro, 312 S. Main St., Ann Arbor, features a glass wine cellar with over 1,500 bottles of European and Californian wines. The wine list is five pages long! Food wise, the menu combines European and Asian cuisine—the sushi selection is almost just as expansive, and the dinner menu features something for every palate.

As with every night out on the town, make sure to contact your safe ride home if you’ve overindulged. Just in case you don’t have arrangements set yet, check out our previously published article on local designated driver services for several affordable and readily available services in the area.
