Eastern Market in Detroit may be open Saturdays year-round, but with the sun coming out and the weather picking up, the best time to visit the popular farmer’s market might be now. Add to that all of the special events that happen throughout the season and you’re sure to be in for a treat.

That is why we have curated a list of things we think are worth checking out during your next visit to the Market.

Game Day Tailgating

Now that baseball has begun its regular season of play, plenty of folks are enjoying home games by starting the day off with a little tailgating. That’s where Eastern Market’s large tailgating space comes into play! With spaces available for purchase in two options ($30 for a 5 car size space or $40 for a 6 bus size space) tailgaters can group up together to get the most of the space available and have some fun.

The best part about tailgating at Eastern Market is that the proceeds go directly to supporting the Market’s mission of helping people acquire healthy food and supporting local food growers and providers.

traverse cargo

The Chevy Traverse seamlessly offers the space and versatility your family needs, great for everything from gear to groceries.

Flower Day

One day a year, on the Sunday following Mother’s Day, Eastern Market opens its shed doors from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Flower Day. This day-long event brings in flower enthusiasts of all types from Michigan, Ontario and the surrounding states to bask in the aroma of fresh, locally grown flowers.

Members of the Metropolitan Detroit Flower Growers Association (MDFGA) arrive early and stay late because they’re ready to spread their knowledge and wares of flowers to hobbyist flower growers and experts alike. So, get there early to have the widest selection available or come late and try to strike a deal on the remaining stock.

Gratiot Central Market

With fresh produce in hand, many Eastern Market shoppers may want to take a short walk over to the Gratiot Central Market where they can find just about any type of meat or fish they are looking for to round out that complete home-cooked meal they have planned for dinner.

These are just a few of the attractions Eastern Market and the surrounding area has to offer! There are tons of restaurants and shops to explore that are within walking distance of Eastern Market.
