Family Friendly Holiday Events!

With Thanksgiving behind us, it’s time to start getting your family in the holiday spirit. There are plenty of ways to get even the Scrooges in your family in the spirit, whether that’s watching a classic holiday movie, baking some cookies, or wrapping a few gifts. Sometimes, however, your family needs a good tree lighting, parade, or visit from Santa to make them go from “bah humbug” to “tis the season!” These upcoming metro Detroit holiday events are sure to bring everyone the joy they need to get in the spirit!

Saline’s 42nd Annual Christmas Parade (12/2)

With over 1,400 participants, 40 floats, and the chance to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, the 42nd Annual Christmas Parade in Saline will have you and your family in a jolly mood. Festivities kick off on Michigan Ave. starting at 5:30 p.m., with the meet and greet of Santa and Mrs. Claus taking place at Merchants Square Building until 8 p.m. If you need more holiday fun from the city of Saline, check out the Downtown Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, December 1 and Treasure Trail to Santa on Saturday, December 19.

45th Annual Noel Night (12/2)

Midtown Detroit will get in the Christmas spirit with its 45th Annual Noel Night happening on Saturday, December 2. The special evening will include over 100 participants such as the Detroit Institute of Arts, Michigan Science Center, Detroit Historical Museum, and Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Your family will be able to enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, craft activities, and over 200 music, theatre and dance groups.

Canton Tree Lighting Celebration (12/6)

The Canton Tree Lighting celebration will take place in front of the Summit on the Park on Wednesday, December 6 at 6:30 p.m. The free event will include kids crafts and activities, refreshments, and the chance to visit with Santa!

Holiday Ice Festival (12/9)

Downtown Ferndale will once again host its annual Holiday Ice Festival on Saturday, December 9 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Nearly 50 ice creations will line the streets of Ferndale and you’ll be able to watch talented ice carvers chisel and shape their blocks of ice into beautiful creations. It’s pretty cool! (pun intended)

Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo (Every weekend in December, and 12/20-23, 12/26-31)

No metro Detroit holiday event round-up is complete without the inclusion of the Detroit Zoo’s Wild Lights. The wildly popular display of holiday cheer inside the zoo will feature more than five million LED lights and will take place all throughout December. There are different packages, but if you want to save money, be sure to order your tickets in advance.
