This Sunday is Father’s Day and while we’d all love to go the whole nine yards to show him what he means to us, sometimes our schedules get the best of us and we’re lucky if we have time to pick up a greeting card. With that in mind, we thought we’d look at a few ways only a metro Detroiter can show how much they love the fathers and the father figures in their life.
There’s a good variety of Father’s Day events happening around town this year:
- Take your dad out for brunch at one of many different restaurants

- Take him to German festival in Sterling Heights

If you’re feeling generous this Father’s Day, The Children’s Center in Detroit does great work with children, helping them manage behavioral, emotional, educational, intellectual and developmental challenges or those who may have experienced trauma. They have tons of opportunities where you can help their mission by volunteering at some of their events, such as family game night, group outings, family fun nights, donation drives and more. They also have a program called The Fatherhood Initiative that works with struggling fathers, helping them realize their true potential as parents. Speaking of programs that promote youth outreach, Read to a Child has a Detroit chapter that works with local schools and has volunteers come in to read to the students. This program encourages kids to read and thus improves literacy rates. So, even if you don’t have a child of your own, there are ways you can help the children living in metro Detroit. If you’re a dad reading this, you might be looking for a way to socialize with other dads in metro Detroit. Lucky for you, there is Detroit Dads Group that was specially made for this exact reason. They organize events together, usually involving their kids. They take trips to parks, playgrounds, museums, nature centers and parent-and-me classes throughout metro Detroit. As you can see, there are a lot of communities and organizations in metro Detroit that can help with all aspects of fatherhood.
