Many might think that biscuits and gravy is a southern only breakfast item, but there are plenty of metro Detroit restaurants that prove the contrary. We’ve selected four breakfast or brunch spots that offer up delicious, and in some cases unique, takes on biscuits and gravy, while also including some recipes and tips on how to make your own at home.
Biscuits & Gravy
The first metro Detroit breakfast spot we’d like to highlight is Biscuits & Gravy in Canton. The appropriately titled restaurant features their special home-made biscuits and gravy plate with one or two biscuits and the option of being topped with your choice of eggs. It’s as delicious as it sounds and the restaurant offers plenty of other house specialities and scrumptious breakfast or brunch items to enjoy. Like biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles might seem like an odd combination but it’s one that works very well at Kuzzo’s Chicken & Waffles in Detroit. One of their breakfast combos is Nana’s Biscuits & Gravy which features two buttermilk biscuits smothered in country sausage gravy, with two eggs and homestyle potatoes. Their breakfast combos are served all day, so biscuits and gravy can make for an appetizing dinner as well. Toast in Ferndale and Birmingham is always a great option if you’re in the mood for great breakfast or brunch dishes. They put their own spin on the biscuits and gravy dish with their Wild Mushroom Biscuits-N-Gravy. Featuring sage biscuit, mushroom, rosemary, thyme, mushroom gravy, and sunny eggs, it’s a wild spin on the southern breakfast dish. Featuring many items you would find in your breakfast pantry, The Pantry in Sterling Heights has been family owned and operated since 1978. You can find numerous egg combinations and omelettes, along with favorites like grits, oatmeal, and bagels. They offer biscuits and gravy as a side so you can pair it with any of your favorite breakfast options. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can always try to make your own biscuits and gravy from home. You might have an old family recipe, but there’s plenty of ways to create delicious biscuits and gravy. Buttermilk biscuits and some variation of sausage gravy always seems to be a popular combination, but don’t be afraid to add some spice or flavor like Toast did with their Wild Mushroom Biscuits-N-Gravy.
