Since the late 80s, Fishbones has been a staple in Greektown, anchoring the neighborhood with a lively space that blends Cajun and Creole flavors with fresh seafood, steaks, and even a full sushi menu. With two expansive bars, live music, and that unmistakable New Orleans energy, it all gives it a festive Mardi Gras-esque pulse from lunch to late-night hours.

The menu reads like a Gulf Coast roadmap. Appetizers set the scene with deep-fried Alligator Voodoo bites, Oysters Rockefeller, Catfish Beignets, and Crab Stuffed Mushrooms. For the gumbo fans, there’s the hearty Gumbo Ya-Ya with chicken and Andouille sausage and a darker, seafood-rich Gumbo simmered with shrimp and crab.

The ‘New Orleans Favorites’ bring the bayou to the table with Crawfish Étouffée, Jambalaya loaded with shrimp and sausage, blackened Redfish Beausoliel with sautéed shrimp, and Southern Fried Catfish with red beans and rice. Steakhouse fans aren’t left out either at Fishbones; Filet Mignon, lamb chops, and a Land & Sea combo deliver char-grilled comfort, while other entrees include Crab Cakes with a sweet mustard sauce, Ginger Salmon with sushi rice, and tempura-fried Fish & Chips. Po’boys aren’t forgotten here, with options of catfish or shrimp.

At the St. Clair Shores and Greektown locations, guests can order nigiri, sashimi, maki rolls, and hand rolls alongside the Creole staples, making Fishbones a rare spot where a plate of oysters, a bowl of étouffée, and a tuna roll can share the table. That diversity makes it an easy choice for groups with different palettes; the seafood devotees, steak lovers, and sushi fans all find something delicious.

Friday and Saturday nights bring jazz performances that bring live music through the bars and dining room, turning dinner into a night out. “We’ve always believed dining should be more than just a meal; it should be an experience,” shares Nico Gatzaros, owner of Fishbones. “From the flavors on the plate to the music in the air, Fishbones brings people together and captures the spirit of the Big Easy right here in the Motor City.”

Decades on, the draw is steady: bold Cajun flavors, fresh seafood and steaks, sushi for all moods, and a soundtrack that keeps the room buzzing. In a dining scene that constantly changes, Fishbones has stayed the course, with a taste of New Orleans planted firmly in Metro Detroit.
