Forgotten Harvest is a nonprofit organization on a mission to relieve hunger in Detroit and its surrounding areas. The organization was established in 1990 and “rescues” millions of pounds of food each year from more than 450 sources. After the surpluses of food have been collected, it is then delivered to 280 emergency food providers in the area. The process fights both hunger and waste. This is a great group that is dedicated to helping the city. With that being said, Forgotten Harvest could really use our help too, Metro Detroit.

Obviously, reliable trucks are needed in order to collect and deliver the food. These trucks can get expensive. A generous donation was given to Forgotten Harvest for a new truck, but it wasn’t quite enough. So, “crowdfunding” was the next step. The nonprofit is reaching out to the community and asking us to help raise $60,000. At the current time I am writing this, $28,260 has been raised, which is slightly below half of the target.

Donations are welcomed and highly appreciated. You can also participate in the “Community Truck Challenge” by donating at least $250, or by creating your own fundraising page and trying to raise $250 or more. Everyone who raises at least $250 will get his/her name on the truck! Think of it as your own personal, miniature sponsorship package.

The trucks are on the road six days a week, and combine for approximately 500,000 miles a year! Throw in all the stops at food distributors and shelters each truck makes and it is no surprise that there is a lot of wear and tear on these vehicles.

With best-in-class cargo space, top of the line safety features, and cutting edge technology, the Chevy Suburban is perfect for any family. See the Suburban's available features that can keep up with your family's lifestyle.

Forgotten Harvest services Wayne, Macomb and Oakland Counties. It covers a 2,000-square mile area per day! Food is delivered to food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, children’s homes, senior centers and more. Food is collected from grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers and other sources.

Forgotten Harvest has helped out the needy for nearly 25 years, it is time that we can help the organization ourselves.

If you have any questions or would like more information, contact Marc Berke, director of major gifts, at (248) 864-7525 or mberke@forgottenharvest.org. Consider this your chance to give back and help those who need it.
