If you’re like me, helping others is something you take great joy in. Whether it be volunteering for a non-profit or attending a fundraising event, helping others makes a person feel good. Most of us have attended charitable fundraising events, but these fundraising events are a little different. From a night out at the bar to watching a few local boxers go 12 rounds, these fundraising events in metro Detroit are not only a good time, they’re for a good cause, too!

Pins for Pets

Combining the fun of bowling and the love of adopting a new pet, Pins for Pets at Classic Lanes in Rochester Hills is a fundraiser that benefits Happy Days Dog & Cat Rescue. The fundraiser will take place Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. Pets looking for a new home will be on site for you to meet, as well as volunteers that can help with the adoption process.

Conquering Cancer One Laugh at a Time

Laughter really is the best medicine. That will be proven Sunday, April 23 at the 4th Annual Conquering Cancer One Laugh at a Time at Rochester Mills brewery in Rochester. This night of comedy will come from the likes of Brey Hayden, Khurum Sheikh, Chris Young and Jermaine D. Nichols with host Moe Lietz. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show kicks off at 8.

Who’s Your Bartender?

This is the signature fundraiser for Project 1, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Michigan that works to improve the lives of those in need by donating goods and money to other local charities, such as Kids on the Go Summer Camps, PKD Foundation and Humble Design. At “Who’s Your Bartender?” attendees can support their favorite bartender of the night. The top three bartenders with the most tips will have half their tip money go towards Project 1 and the other half go toward a charity of their choosing.

From transporting food and goods to having enough room for pets and family, owning the right SUV is essential for pet owners. See the available features that make the Chevy Tahoe a pet lover's dream.

Community Housing Network Spring Benefit Concert

Community Housing Network, which works to combat all facets of homelessness, will be holding a spring benefit concert with an acoustic performance by American Idol winner Phillip Phillips. The concert will take place at the renovated Flagstar Strand Theatre in downtown Pontiac on Thursday, April 27 at 8 p.m. A portion of the funds generated by the concert will go toward CHN’s “Critical Needs Fund,” which is earmarked for things like security deposits, bus transportation to look for housing and simple furnishings/cleaning supplies.

A Fighting Chance

Who knew that the sport of boxing could be so beneficial to people in need? The folks at Wish Upon a Teen sure knew. The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works to improve the lives of teenagers suffering from life-limiting medical conditions will be hosting “A Fighting Chance,” an evening of boxing matches from local professional and amateur boxers. There will also be cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, raffles and live entertainment. Proceeds from the event will go toward Wish Upon a Teen’s Design My Room, Spa Day and An Evening of Dreams Prom programs.
