We live in a time when superheroes rule the movie theater, video games are being played more than ever and the most popular show on cable is about kings, queens and a frozen zombie army. Needless to say, being a nerd has never been more in vogue. If you fit into that once ostracized culture, you might be happy to know there are some great events coming up for you in metro Detroit!
This is a big one. The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses has been touring the world for years and now it’s coming to Orchestra Hall, played by the full Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Taking music from the 30-year video game franchise, Symphony of the Goddesses is a five-movement symphony that includes all-new arrangements approved by franchise producer Eiji Aonuma and Nintendo composer and sound director Koji Kondo. Grab your ocarina and tunic and get ready to be transported to Hyrule.
Legendary writer, composer and director John Carpenter is touring in North America and will be gracing The Majestic Theater in Detroit with his presence on Friday, November 10. Known as the father of some of your favorite movies like the Halloween franchise and Escape from New York, this is your chance to get up-close and personal with this film icon. For those #1 Carpenter fans, there is a meet & greet ticket option that grants you the opportunity to meet the legend himself, get a photograph and more. You know nothing, bar crawlers. That’s right. A Game of Thrones-themed bar crawl is happening in Royal Oak on November 18. In addition to themed drinks at all of the participating bars, tickets include a dragon egg with a dragon inside (no word on the authenticity of said dragon), a Hand of the King pin, a map of Westeros, a beer stein souvenir. Let’s just hope we can all pull a Jon Snow and rise from the dead the day after. Every journey is more fun when you're together. Grab your friends and hit the road in style in the Chevy Trax. Geeks Who Drink is an international pub trivia group with chapters everywhere, including metro Detroit. Grab your nerdy friends to form a team of up to six people and see how well you know your nerd trivia. That means brushing up on Doctor Who, actors in cult movies and more. This is a regularly occurring event, so follow the Geeks Who Drink Detroit Facebook page to know where the next trivia night will be. —Game of Crawls
