From farm work to heavy lifting, the Chevy Silverado is built to tackle the toughest tasks with ease.
Where is it written that good food can’t be affordable, too? Metro Detroit has become a landmark for great restaurants and bars and for good reason. With places like Slows becoming a highly recommended spot for out-of-towners looking for a taste of the city and inventive places like Frame and the adjoining Joe’s Bar in Hazel Park constantly springing up, it’s hard to find the time (and money) to taste them all.
This month, however, two events will be making that grievance a little easier. Dine Drink Detroit (Oct. 15-26) and Royal Oak Restaurant Week (Oct. 20-29) will provide a simple and affordable way for your taste buds to experience something new in metro Detroit’s blossoming food scene.
Since its inaugural event in 2013, Dine Drink Detroit has partnered with 22 Detroit restaurants and bars to show diners what the city has to offer. October 15 is the Dine Drink Detroit launch party at Eastern Market Shed 3 from 2-8 p.m. From Oct. 16-26, for $15 (plus tax + gratuity), participating restaurants and bars will be offering a meal and a drink. That means you have ten days to hit up as many of the 22 establishments to see what’s cookin’ in their kitchen. One night you might check out La Lanterna in Capitol Park for a warm, delicious brick oven pizza shared with a friend over a bottle of wine. Another night, to satisfy a craving for noodles, you might head over to Ima in Corktown for some truly unique and healthy noodle bowls. Finally, round things out with a trip to a Detroit mainstay, Traffic Jam & Snug, where you can enjoy fresh, homemade cooking with a changing menu that caters to all types of palates. From farm work to heavy lifting, the Chevy Silverado is built to tackle the toughest tasks with ease. Once you’ve had your fill of real Detroit cuisine, head over to Royal Oak, where more than 20 restaurants are participating in Royal Oak Restaurant Week. On the menu, you’ll find three-course lunches and/or dinners for $15-$35 per person. Bigalora(PDF) will have $20 lunch and dinner options. Start off with biga artichoke fritters, a wood-roasted beet salad or wood-roasted sweet potato. Then, dig into a butternut squash and bacon pizza, rigatoni marinara or meat sauce or a bacon sausage pizza. Finally, satisfy your sweet tooth with a scoop of gelato or sorbetto. And that’s just one restaurant! The best part of Royal Oak Restaurant Week is that every time you purchase a RORW meal you can vote for a participating non-profit as they compete for $4,000 in prizes. The non-profits are Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland and Macomb Counties, Gilda’s Club and the Royal Oak Animal Shelter. So, what do you have to lose? A chance at tasting all this great food in metro Detroit at affordable prices? You’d be crazy not to!
