Good news! Our public golf tour through metro Detroit continues today, as we focus on Macomb County. There are several viable public golf courses offering gorgeous greens, rolling fairways, challenging obstacles and breathtaking scenery, but here are the places you’ll want to pay special attention to in Macomb County.
Located in Shelby Township, Cherry Creek has been voted as “Best Public Golf Course” in metro Detroit by Hour Magazine. The 18-hole course offers four sets of tees for various skill levels, ranging from 5,012 yards to 6,784 yards. Additionally, it has been named as “Southeast Michigan’s Best Practice Facility,” offering a driving range with 50 stations, seven target greens, two putting greens and three practice greens with bunkers.
Bruce Hill Golf Course, tucked away in Romeo, prides itself on its beautiful scenery, with spring fed ponds, rolling hills and tall trees. The course itself offers 18 holes and is a par-70, with many par-3 holes. Looking for a challenge? Bruce Hills allows for outings, tournaments and leagues. It also boasts a two-story, full-service, clubhouse with a tasty menu.
The Orchards was designed by internationally acclaimed golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. The Washington Township course has a classic feel to it, and was opened in 1993. The course sits on 525 acres of a residential and golf community, and stretches 7,036 yards.

It is a par-72, and has 88 sand bunkers to challenge golfers. The golf club also offers a practice facility with a 27,000 square-foot practice green.
Wolcott Mill Metropark in Ray already offers some intriguing sights, but the golf course is definitely worth checking out. The North Branch of the Clinton River runs through the course, giving it the perfect backdrop. The 18-hole, par-71, course has a slope rating of 122, and amasses 6,266 yards. The facility also includes a driving range.
The 27-hole championship course was designed by master golf architect Jerry Matthews. It offers three separate nine-hole courses – North, South and West – and each has its own diverse challenges. The scenery includes hills, trees, lakes and rivers. If your games needs a little work, The Sycamore Hills staff offers both individual and group lessons.
