I will confess that up until recently I didn’t even know that fishing charters were available in the Metro Detroit area. I don’t fancy myself a huge fisherman, but this is something that sounds like a lot of fun! Just in case you were also unaware, allow me to fill you in.

Fishing charters allow you to go out into the water and catch some fish on somebody else’s boat. It is a great alternative for those who do not have the time or money to maintain their own boats. Another plus is that these charters are often run by people who know the water well. So you can count on being in a spot where the fish are biting, having the right bait and perhaps even learning new techniques or tips.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone that these services are offered in The Mitten. According to netstate.com, Michigan has more shoreline than any other state besides Alaska, and according to the Michigan Inland Lakes Partnership, Michigan boasts more than 11,000 lakes (take that Minnesota!).

Lake St. Clair is one of the many lakes in the great state of Michigan that offers several fishing charters. Curtis Custom Charters in Chesterfield Twp. takes you out on a 27-foot-long vessel.  You will see walleye, smallmouth bass, perch and more. The captain of the ship has 25 years of fishing experience on Lake St. Clair and is licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard. He knows all of the seasonal hot spots! Check out the times and rates.

The Chevy Trax offers style and practicality, perfect for making every drive fun for the whole family.

Captain Franks Fishing Charters can also be found on Lake St. Clair and operates from April until October. He fishes for trophy muskies, northern pike, smallmouth bass and walleye. You’re sure to catch some fish with Captain Frank!

Medicine Man Charters in St. Clair Shores will take you out on both Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River. Medicine Man Charters specializes in muskie, walleye, bass and perch fishing. Sunset cruises are available, which are beautiful to see on the water. Captain Ed Pascua has served multiple years as the Michigan Ontario Muskie Club Director and has more than 35 years of angling experience.

Heat Wave Charters, also in Chesterfield, takes you out on a fully equipped 31-foot-long boat on either Lake St. Clair or the Detroit River. According to its site, Heat Wave catches 12 muskies a day on average, but often surpasses that number. Captain Craig Miller is licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard and has 37 years of fishing experience! An experienced first mate also accompanies each trip.

If you live more toward the southern part of Michigan, perhaps Lake Erie is more of what you’re looking for. Kingfisher Charters, LLC in Monroe will take you out for some nice walleye and perch fishing. You will be aboard a 28-foot-long vessel. Captain Dave is another U.S.C.G. licensed boater and has more than 30 years of fishing knowledge. It is located right off of I-75, minutes away from the Western Basin fishing grounds.

As you can see, there are plenty of options for fishing charters ‘round these here parts. That means plenty of opportunities to catch some fish! For a full list of places, please check the directory.
